Dayton SUCKS! I lived there for a year and a half and was glad I left there. I’ve lived in holes, but Dayton takes the cake. Don’t move there if you’re a single woman because unless you’re inbred and married at 12, you’re screwed. Everyone looks at single women that aren’t married with suspicion. Never met so many idiots in all my life…

My husband and I are actually afraid to spend our check. Gas prices, groceries, clothing just about EVERYTHING has sky rocketed. These stimulus checks are a temp fix to stimulate the economy. Hey President bush how about lowering the cost of living? How about letting us keep our paychecks for a few months tax free? How about cutting the intrest rates for the people who are upside down on their mortgages like us who owe $140,000 more than the house is now worth. SO DISGUSTING!!!

We the people need to wake up and just give back this so called gift, this is just another bill, to pay back next year taxes. This will make your tax bracket go up and you’ll owe more money to the government. Nothing is free to the American people’s. Just keep the check to give back to the government. We need to just start realizing it is what it is. What rebate check? Won’t be getting one of those. You see I did the right thing, went to college, got a good job, worked my tail off, paid tons in taxes though I am now being penalized for this by not getting a “rebate” on the taxes I have paid; effectively making my tax rate even higher. So you see, this is not a “rebate” it is another wealth redistribution scheme… A tax “rebate” for some is just another tax to another.

See Bush is giving us this rebate to stimulate the economy but his policies spend way more than that. We would have the 168 billion and more if we were not in Iraq for 5 years. I supported the war at first so did america but because Bush said it was over a month after it started (May 1, 2003). We should have sent 500,000 troops in cleaned house and got out within 5 years. Now Bush’s policies in Iraq are costing us 1 billion a month. Thats enough money to stimulate the economy 5 times over.

Most of these posts crack me up. First off, a lot of you that are blasting “uneducated” workers and such, need to learn to spell first before calling anyone else a moron. Second, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with Dayton or Montgomery County. And last time I checked, Oakwood, Centerville, Miamisburg and Washington Twp. are still part of Montgomery County. So how about chilling with this anti-regional crap and stick with the topic. Unless you are calling your own towns trash.

So as you spend your check keep this in mind, When will the Federal Reserve quit printing currency and adding to our inflationary problems. We the people want things right now! This is why we’re in a credit crunch, amoung other worries. By the way, I agree with Mike! Bush did exactly what the American people wanted at that moment when those towers came down. And a democratic majority in Congress hasn’t helped anybody. More programs to pay for that only a small percentage of people can benefit from. And by the way, if you aren’t an illegal immigrant or have kids, you can’t get help from govt.

Welfare — at least the kind everyone here harps on — was abolished years ago. Adults not caring for children cannot get cash assistance in Ohio. Assistance to people caring for children is limited to 36 months.

By RM25483

Wait, Ohio sucks because it has poor people on welfare-type programs? If you have an education and get a real job here in Ohio, you have more job security here than, say, out West. Why? Because we are cheaper labor and our salary : cost-of-living ratio is better. It is here that is should be easiest to go from poor to middle class simply by getting an education and a real job, it’s a smaller jump up. If you don’t like something, go out and vote and write to your representatives.

This isn’t a hand out. It’s a loan against next year’s tax return. If you get money back from 08, it’s reduced by your rebate amount. If you have outstanding taxes, it goes towards that. If you owe next year, it’s a wash. For the most part, they’re advancing money that they took from you in the 1st place. Our economy is built on financial irresponsibility, so accept the necessary evils.

That being said, I’m publishing a book called, “What To Do with Your Rebate Check.” I’m charging $19.95.

I tend to respect the educated analysis of a Harris, but personal attacks will not help. dublg, Mike does have some interesting, though misguided, interpretations. Mike, you cannot blame one facet, specifically union wages. Education is my solution as well; but remember, education without proper guidance only perpetuates man as a more clever moron. I think Whatever is really getting fired up. You can’t solely blame a pure ‘income tax’ for an economic crisis. However, our current tax system is a far cry from a pure income tax. The deductions, credits, exemptions, etc with our current income tax system have definitely played a role in the economic state. Did you know the tax laws have been changed 16,000 times since the last major overhaul in ’86? All these many complications to the income tax just mentioned is what the special interest & politicians use to gain and keep power. (AKA buy the vote) From mortgage interest deductions to the educator expense deduction; from the student loan interest deduction child and dependant care credits. These are all examples of special interest group influence and groups who have a vested interest in keeping the income tax system the way it is. Is this system really a fair tax system?

Americans have been paying taxes since the day they set foot on this soil. So don’t say that income tax is the root of all problems. Five-Ten years ago, the country was fine. If people would pick up a history book, maybe you would relieze that the economy will slump down every so often. Americans whine to much today. If you hate this country so much, then leave, nobody will stop you. Just make sure the door don’t hit you on the butt on the way out!

This check is not money from the government. It is YOUR money that THEY seize. The economy is in bad shape because the government has been seizing our money. Chew on this: If a $1200 check (a fraction of your own pre-paid tax money) will stimulate the economy, imagine what a $10,000 check would do. Better yet, imagine having 100% of your paycheck to spend every week. The economy is in ruins because of the income tax and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. What a joke.

Why blame the government for all problems?? It’s the americans choice to buy items, such as a house that they can barley afford; fancy cars with 700$ car payments; putting vacations and TV on credit cards; buying items they don’t need. If Americans stopped leaving paycheck to paycheck, maybe the gax prices or increase in food wouldn’t effect them so bad. With me, the increases means I am not savings as much money, but I still have money to save.

I presume you are talking about the Chinese stimulus package? (Considering most items it will be spent on are made there) I plan to use it to pay off some student loan debt that will put me in a much better financial position in the long run. Of course, I could go buy a 50in plasma TV, put it towards a brand new car, or otherwise wastefully spend it like many people will - however, I’m trying to make responsible decisions with my own money.
