Walmart robber pleads out; alleged accomplice to go to trial

DAYTON — One of the two men accused of robbing and shooting a 28-year-old woman at a Moraine Walmart Supercenter pleaded guilty Friday, July 24, to complicity to commit aggravated robbery.

La’Shawn Porcher, 46, of Dayton, will be sentenced Aug. 13 by Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Mary Wiseman. He was to be tried, along with his co-defendant, Richard T. Elijah, on Aug. 3. Elijah is still scheduled to go to trial.

Porcher was indicted on two counts. The second, complicity to commit felonious assault, was dropped under the plea agreement reached with the court. The charge he pleaded to is a first-degree felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, but under the agreement, he will be sentenced to between five and eight years.

Had he been convicted of both charges, Porcher could have faced up to 18 years in prison.

The incident occurred Dec. 20 at the store at 1701 W. Dorothy Lane. Gina King was wheeling a shopping cart to her car when she was robbed and shot in the abdomen. She was released from Miami Valley Hospital six days later.

Less than an hour after the robbery, Moraine police arrested Porcher and Elijah, now 47 and also from Dayton.

Elijah had been released from prison just two days before the Walmart shooting for an April conviction for breaking and entering. He faces one count of aggravated robbery and two counts of felonious assault and could receive up to 26 years in prison.

She can thank the city of Morane for making the access road from Gettysburg Ave right into Moraine for all this happening! Brilliant thinking! And they wonder why crime is so high in their city.

Anonymous is an IDIOT. Crime in Moraine is at an all time low, thanks to various factors. Porcher and Elija were trying to flee up Dryden Rd, far away from Main St. Get your facts right, stupid dayton-ite.

Anonymous what did that have to do with the incident? Good to hear the suspects are in custody, they are going to pay for there crime and last but surely not least the victim is alive and I pray doing well with no looming medical concerns.

There is no need to boycott the Moraine Walmart. Since this incident, they have employed Securitas and made sure their security is highly visible. Since I work across the street, I see them all the time and feel safe popping in for a quick shop on my lunch hour. Boycott Walmart because everything there is made in China, or because of their labor relations issues if you must, but not because they don’t care about customer security.

I dont shop at the Walmart ON Dorothy Lane because the employees are rude and nasty, That encludes the management staff. I used the self check out, the stupied machine took my money and did not give me credit, when I talked with a manager I was told it was my fault, that I should have use a traditional check out lane. It took 2 months and a lawer to get my 100 dollars back. I never realized that self check out were the slot machines on retail. On a positive note the Walmart on Miller Lane has helpfull and polite employees.

Mark, It’s probably perfectly fine that you now shop at a different Wal-mart. The people at this store seem to love the customers, are always helpful and they probably spell better than you do. This really is not about Walmart, it’s about crime in the greater Dayton area and how Montgomery County Courts handle it.

Ape, convicted felons can’t get a concealed carry permit in Ohio, and it’s still illegal to carry concealed without the permit.

The biggest problem with this story and any violation of the law in Montgomery County is the LIBERAL JUDGES. Get smart Montgomery County residents! Vote the LIBERAL JUDGES out of office.

The Walmart on Dorothy lane reflects poorly on both the City of Kettering and Moraine. This Wal*Mart has destroyed the home values in the immediate area and brought an enormous amount of crime to a once mostly innocent city. Remove the bus line and you will weed out a good majority of the problem! However, that would create new problems. Not everyone that rides the bus is a problem, but the few that are a problem are causing the problem at this wal*mart. I shop at the Wilmington Pike Walmart and you should too! You will notice the lines actually move and management has a clue. It is also safer. How many times has this wal*mart been in the news? 6? 7? 20? More like 30. Which is why they close at night. It is out of control and is spreading bad about our community.
