Boy accused of killing cousin is indicted

DAYTON — A 16-year-old boy accused of killing his cousin in a drug-related dispute was indicted Thursday, April 22, on two counts of murder and two counts of felonious assault.

Gregory Lamar Parson has been in the Juvenile Justice Center since shortly after the Nov. 21 shooting of Trenton Scroggins, though he is expected to be transferred to the county jail, Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Greg Flannagan said last month.

The cousins were on Willowwood Drive when they got into a dispute about a drug debt and guns were taking out, Dayton Sgt. Gary White said at the time. Scroggins, then 19, was shot several times and died hours later at Miami Valley Hospital.

Dalcapone Morris convicted of all charges

DAYTON — Dalcapone Alpaccino Morris, on trial this week for the robbery and slaying of a Clayton man last year, was convicted of all charges Thursday, April 22.

Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Mary Katherine Huffman set sentencing for May 3. Huffman will sentence Morris’ co-defendant Michael Guy on Friday.

Morris, 21, and Guy, 20, were indicted on charges of murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and felonious assault in the June 2 slaying of Richard A. Pogue, Jr. Pogue, 22, died at 1369 Kingsley Ave. in what police called a drug-related robbery attempt.

Guy, who pleaded guilty to two counts of felonious assault Nov. 19, was expected to testify against Morris, but prosecutors did not call him.

Defense attorney Nicholas G. Gounaris said Monday that the evidence would show that Guy was solely responsible for what happened. Gounaris told the jury that Guy would receive a 12-year sentence in exchange for his testimony.

According to county prosecutors, Guy and Morris wanted to purchase marijuana, so they went to Pogue, who then called Javon Buckman, who lived at the Kingsley Avenue residence. Guy, Morris and Pogue went there, but Morris and Guy quickly forced Pogue and Buckman to get on the ground. While they were lying face down, Morris and Guy went through their pockets.

But while Buckman did not resist, Pogue began to and was shot, “gunned down in the back, close range, at the age of 22,” assistant county prosecutor Lynda Dodd said Monday.

Morris and Guy fled. Pogue also ran out of the residence and continued about five houses down the street before he collapsed and died on the sidewalk, Dodd said.
