Police dog bites man wanted on felony dog fighting charges

Ranon Brock.jpg

DAYTON - A Dayton police dog on Sunday, Nov. 23, bit and helped apprehend a man wanted on felony dog-fighting charges.

Ranon O. Brock, 31, allegedly fled on foot when he saw officers who responded to a burglary-in-progress call in the 100 block of Cambridge Avenue at about 5:45 p.m., Lt. Patrick Welsh said.

The K-9 unit was called to help track Brock (pictured), who saw the dog and began to run back toward officers who were chasing from another direction, Welsh said.

The K-9 and another officer caught Brock at the same time, and the dog accidentally bit the officer in the calf, Welsh said.

The dog released once given the command by an officer who started to wrestle with Brock. The K-9 jumped into the fray and grabbed Brock on the wrist so officers could arrest him.

“The dog does not distinguish between good guys and bad,” Welsh said. “But he did follow commands, and that’s what he is trained to do.”

The officer was treated for a puncture wound at a local hospital and released. Brock was treated for bites to his hand and was then transported to jail on two felony counts of illegal dog fighting.

Brock also faces misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, obstructing official business and other outstanding warrants involving domestic violence.

I wish I had been there. I hope he screamed liked a little girl. We have a “security” pitbull next door. How secure is it when he has bitten a neighborhood girl who came to play with the resident’s child? Crack down on all vicious dogs and their owners. NO tolerance.

Clevo - The dog bit the officer first, but then released on command then grabbed the suspect by the arm.

Hey Clevo, the article says that Brock was treated for bites to his hand. He got what he deserved.

Justice is at least partially served. Hopefully, the courts will add to the sentence the dog gave him. Good work K-9!!!!!!!

Mans best friend did his duty. THe dog biteing suspect, will just get a slap on the wrist. Justice is that way. He will probably just do community service with probation. You can kill teenagers with your vehicle driving drunk and get only a few years behind bars. Is this justice?

Let’s right away bring up pit-bulls. Some people are so ignorant it is disgusting. Why don’t you get some eductation on the topic and realize that pit-bulls are NOT to blame it’s the OWNERS!!

I agree with LBS - it is NOT the dog but the owner!!! I know SEVERAL sweet and loving pits that would never do harm to human unless threatened - but then which good dog wont defend its loved master?

Tell Cesar Milan that statement and he will prove different.Dogs,no matter which breed are only as good or bad as their owners make them.Cesar has a wonderful old Pit named Daddy that teaches “people” trained dogs how to behave.Yes,all dogs are trainable if not gone feral.

That’s the same seeing-eye dog my blind neighbor got rid of!! My neighbor was trying to cross the street, and the dog walked out into on coming traffic. When the dog and my neighbor got across the street, my neighbor gave the dog a treat. I asked him why he gave the dog a treat, and he said, “I want to find out where his head was so I could kick him in his butt!”
