Man shoplifts clothes, applies for job before leaving, police say

DAYTON - Police arrested a 49-year-old man employees of a local store said stole several articles of clothing on Tuesday, May 5, and then filled out a job application before leaving.

Stanley A. Wright is in jail on a misdemeanor theft charge after employees at Deveroes, 3185 W. Siebenthaler Ave., said he stole T-shirts and pants.

Wright stuffed the items under his shirt and the waistline of his pants before going to the checkout counter to fill out an application, according to police.

When Wright walked out of the store, he set off the alarm. And after checking around the store, a manager there discovered about $400 in apparel was missing.

Wright wrote his actual address on the job application and police tracked him down at the St. Vincent’s Hotel, 120 West Apple St., about 8:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, Wright was ironing a pair of jeans he had been accused of stealing from the store, according to police.

According to court and jail records, Wright has been arrested and convicted of numerous theft and trespassing charges. He is in the Montgomery County Jail on a $1,000 bond, awaiting a court date.
