Detectives have nicknames of homicide suspects

DAYTON - Homicide detectives are busy today, June 2, trying to connect nicknames to real names of suspects involved in the shooting death of a 46-year-old man.

Michael Ray Jordan died at Miami Valley Hospital just after midnight Sunday, May 31, after he was shot in the back by at least one of four men, according to police.

Police said Jordan was robbed, beaten and then shot by members of the group who fled from Fountain Avenue off North Main Street, Lt. Brian Johns said.

“We have some nicknames and are pointed in the right direction,” Lt. Patrick Welsh said Tuesday, June 2.

Johns said Jordan and a friend approached the four men in the 200 block of Delaware Avenue and asked to buy some marijuana.

The men led Jordan and the friend to the 200 block of Fountain Avenue, where they shot and killed Jordan at 12:33 a.m., Johns said.

A suspect was arrested hours later by was later released. Anyone with information is urged to call 333-COPS.

Jordan is the city’s 16th homicide victim this year, according to police records. You can check the status of the other 15 homicides and all 2008 homicides by clicking here.
