Police: DJ’s announcement leads to officer’s broken nose
DAYTON - Police responding to possible “gang violence” at Broadway Park on Sunday, May 31, had to Taser a 16-year-old boy who allegedly punched an officer in the face, breaking the officer’s nose.
Police were at 901 Broadway Street about 8:30 p.m. to monitor a crowd of about 300 to 400 people who gathered for an “organized event” at the park, according to a police report.
Sgt. Michael Godsey told the party’s disc jockey about 8:45 p.m. that the park closes at 9 p.m., the report stated.
But the DJ announced police were shutting down the party, the report stated.
Officer Joshua Frisby said in his report the crowd grew frustrated by the announcement and because the party was ended abruptly. To prevent any violence, officers paired up and asked those in crowd to disperse, the report stated.
Fights broke out as officers started to walk through the park. When an officer approached two juveniles fighting, a 16-year-old punched the officer in the face, causing blood to “spray everywhere,” Frisby said.
The 16-year-old fell down as he tried to flee from officers, who then Tasered the juvenile and arrested him for assaulting a peace officer and for rioting, the report stated.
The officer was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and was treated for the broken nose and a black eye, the report stated.
There were no other reports of injuries related to violence at the park. The teenager was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center.

What is wrong with people. Hitting a police officer? Failure to leave the park at closing time? Wow! Dayton is off the hook. I cannot believe how these young people today believes the law doesn’t apply to them.

Kids and young adults are out of control. No respect and no regard for any sort of authority or of elders. They are unruly and dangerous. Learned behavior and neglect.

How could a cop allow a child to throw a punch that broke his nose? I’m sure they recieve some sort of self defense training, don’t they? Sucker punched? Still no excuse. A 16 year old breaking an adult uniformed officer’s nose. Now I’ve heard everything!

Are you the same people who were all worked up last week because the Principle disciplined the students for wearing the flip flops? One week you are upset because the kids were “picked on” and the next week you see the effects of the undisciplined. That’s one reason for RULES and consequences in the early years. Evidently these young people didn’t learn. You reap what you sow.

Doc. What are you talking about. I coach 14 - 18 year old youth boys/men. Several of my wrestlers are well over 6 feet and weigh over 200 lbs. I am sure in a one on one with one with one of these athletes, you would have your hands full. This behavior is a problem of respect, or lack of, not that the officer did anything wrong. Get a life.

so wait according to the report, did the 16 year old hit a police officer or a peace officer. Also, shouldn’t Tasered be tasered as it is not the beginning of a sentence? Is it so tough to proofread an article before posting.
