Police arrest alleged burglar

DAYTON — Police have arrested a man who is accused of burglarizing a house last week when the occupant walked in on the attempt and scared the suspect and a partner away when the occupant screamed for help.

Ronnie E. Falls, 22, of Dayton was taken downtown for questioning Tuesday, June 9, and then arrested on a charge of aggravated burglary at 2:40 p.m., Dayton Lt. Patrick Welsh said.

The victim, 28-year-old Vernell Parks, told police she returned to her home in the 1600 block of Chapel Street on Friday, June 5, after a trip to a nearby United Dairy Farmers store and discovered an unknown car in the driveway. Parks walked in and discovered two men apparently in the process of a burglary, Welsh said.

Parks was able to give police a description of the getaway car and license tag number during her 911 call, Welsh said. A police lieutenant spotted the car Tuesday morning and alerted detectives, who picked up Falls a short time later, Welsh said.

Parks also picked Falls out of a photo lineup, Welsh said. Police do not know the motive for the incident, and they continue to search for the other suspect, he said.

“(Falls) is known to the department as being involved in theft-related offenses,” Welsh said.

Falls was convicted of burglary and drug trafficking (cocaine) in 2005 and sentenced to five years of community control on both charges, according to court records.
