Police awaiting medical evidence from weekend shooting death
DAYTON — Police are awaiting a Montgomery County Coroner’s Office autopsy report from a weekend shooting death before deciding whether to seek criminal charges against a woman they believe is the shooter.
Bobby J. Johnson, 22, whose address was listed in court records as 559 Evergreen Ave., was shot about 9:51 a.m. Sunday, June 21, in the 1600 block of Bancroft Avenue. Witnesses initially told police the shooter was a male, but the investigation has determined that the suspect was a female who had a domestic relationship with Johnson, Dayton Lt. Patrick Welsh said.
Johnson was shot four times in the abdomen and chest and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where he died, said police Lt. Brian Johns.
Police have interviewed the suspect but have not made an arrest pending further evidence, Welsh said.
Johnson appeared in court Thursday, June 18, when he pleaded not guilty to charges of carrying a concealed weapon and having weapons under disability, according to Montgomery County Common Pleas Court records. Johnson also had been convicted of drug possession (cocaine), drug trafficking (cocaine) and aggravated arson since 2005.
Police are not trying to identify or locate any other suspects, Welsh said.
