Main Street burglars get $90,000 in cash, phones Monday

DAYTON - Dayton’s burglary squad was busy Monday morning, June 22, investigating three incidents that resulted in nearly $90,000 in stolen cash and cell phones.

The biggest take was at the Marathon gas station, 1845 N. Main St. The owner arrived to open the gas station about 7:30 a.m. and reported $80,000 missing from safes in a back office, according to a police report.

The owner told officers he was in a hurry the night before and forgot to lock the safes, the report stated. Video surveillance showed two males came through the roof of the station and put the money in a plastic bag.

The burglars were wearing dark clothing with white shoes, the report stated. The footage was too dark to give officers a clear look at the suspects.

Employees at the Cricket Wireless store, 3134 N. Main St., arrived Monday at 10 a.m. to find the building had been broken into and nearly $8,000 in cash and cell phones were taken, the report stated.

The store, owned by Amir Enterprises Inc., has an alarm that was activated about 3:30 a.m., but no one responded, an employee said, because they thought mice tripped the alarm, the report stated.

Police were not notified at 3:30 a.m. because employees did not want to pay a possible false alarm fine, the report stated.

Officers determined burglars cut the deadbolts on the store’s security roll-down doors and pried open the back door.

The store does have video surveillance but detectives were not able to view it at the time due to it being protected by a password, the report stated. The store’s owner has the password and was not immediately available.

There have been no arrests made in either of the burglaries, but Sgt. Dan Mauch said the incidents could be connect to the same burglars.

But thanks to a quick-acting witness there was an arrest in the burglary of the Shell gas station at 1 E. Stewart St.

Police said a passerby noticed Rodney S. Giddings, 32, trying to break into the station about 2:45 a.m.

The passerby called 911 and police arrived at the store to find Giddings inside, the report stated. Giddings busted a store window get in but did no other significant damage, the report stated.

Cigarettes were found on the floor of the store and a liquor cabinet had been disturbed, the report stated. The owner of the Shell station is the same owner of the Marathon station where the $80,000 was taken, Mauch said.

The owner of the stations has not provided anymore surveillance footage, Mauch said.

If anyone has details related to the burglaries they are urged to call 333-COPS.

I would like to know who the alarm company was that thought “mice” were responsible for the break in and chose not to send the police. I bet it’s the same company that said it was “wind” when our home was burglarized.

$80,000 left in a gas station safe? That’s nuts.

By makes one wonder...

What a lucky day for the guys who broke into the place and the safe had 80,000 and it was left unlocked for them… hmmm, makes one wonder… then the store with the cash and phones being taken while the alarm goes off, and they suspect mice… hmmm, another one makes one wonder! Come on people, why have the alarm system if you are not going to use it?! I would venture to guess if the police focus on the would be victims in these cases, they can probably be solved really quickly!

What in the heck? I can’t believe that store makes that kind of money selling cell phones and gas. Go Figure. Sounds stanky to me.

80,000 left in safe on main street. They need to be robbed if your that dumb

By +Insurance= ($180,000)

Yea. Go figure! After the insurance company pays off everyone will split $180,000. The other robbery was set up to make the first one look legitimate. The only loser in these “robberies” is the guy who got caught for cigarettes and liquor at the opposite end of town.

The Owner “FORGOT” to lock the safes… YEA! Like that’s real believable! Conspiracy!

Maybe the Marathon station is a drug front. Two years ago a gas station down by Turtle Creek Flea Market was selling. Lots of customers in and out.

Just goes to prove that gas stations really DO make the big bucks here, doesn`t it? In this case i guess the profits really did go thru the roof.. Sorry for the pun!

The owner first forgets to lock the safe and that same night, people break in through the roof… Hmmm, does the typical random burglary go through roofs of stores or buildings ? What a coincidence.

“I know what you’re asking: Are these burglaries possibly connected? I’ve left a message for the burglary squad sergeant to get an answer” No that is not what we are asking. We are asking what other crimes has this repeat offender committed and what judge and mat heck has let him off to continue to steal and rob from people. Leave a message for mat heck to call you and explain why these bangers are consistently being released to continue the cycle of violence. The following is from http://www.clerk.co.montgomery.oh.us/pro/ 2004 CR 02156- STATE OF OHIO vs RODNEY S. GIDDINGS 07/27/2004 INDICTMENT FOR POSSESSION OF COCAINE (LESS THAN 5GRMS-OTHER THAN CRK) FILED. 11/15/04. DEFT SENTENCED TO 5 YRS COMMUNITY CONTROL; COURT SUSPENDS DEFT’S DRIVERS LICENSE FOR 6 MTHS. GORMAN 11/30/2004 TERMINATION OF PROBATION (INCOMPLETE) FILED. Judge gORMAN wrote “The court finds that the offender has NOT met all of the sanctions of community control, however, an extension of the community control period will serve NO further benefit. The court ORDERS that the community control status of the offender be terminated.” Of course mat heck did not object or file an appeal which he is allowed to do by law. judge gorman is the one that refuses to sentence ANY drug dealer to ANY prison time. 9 months after judge gorman felt that an extension of community control would serve no purpose—- 2005 CR 02195- STATE OF OHIO vs RODNEY S. GIDDINGS 08/17/2005 INDICTMENT FOR POSSESSION OF COCAINE (LESS THAN 1GRM-CRK COCAINE) FILED. 12-13-05. SENTENCED TO CRC 9 MONTHS CONCURRENT TO 05 CR 2767. SUSPEND DRIVER’S LICENSE 1 YEAR Judge DAVIS 2005 CR 02767- STATE OF OHIO vs RODNEY STAR GIDDINGS 08/24/2005 INDICTMENT FOR TRAFFICKING IN COCAINE (LESS THAN 1GRM) (CRK FORM) & TRAFFICKING IN COUNTERFEIT CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES FILED. PLEA FILED 11-23-05. GUILTY TO TRAFFICKING IN CRACK COCAINE (< 1 GRAM). COUNT 2 IS DISMISSED. FINAL DISPO 12-13-05. DAVIS 12-13-05. SENTENCED TO CRC 9 MONTHS CONCURRENT TO 05 CR 2195. SUSPEND DRIVER’S LICENSE 1 YEAR. judge DAVIS Here we have a convicted drug dealer still on the street that has decided to branch out into stealing to subsidize his crack dealing income. Let’s just watch case number 2009 CR 02006- STATE OF OHIO vs RODNEY S. GIDDINGS BREAKING AND ENTERING (unoccupied structure) and judge A. J. WAGNER to see if mat heck and judge A. J. WAGNER are dedicated to protecting the public.

The Marathon gas station owner is in on it. He was in a “hurry and forgot” to lock a safe with 80 large? He’s part of the scam. Same thing with the guy blaming the mice. It’s all a buncha cons and a big racket!

June 23, 2009 1:33 PM | Link to this

Disbar, I see your point, kind of. I wouldn’t call this guy violent. He obviously has a crack problem and needs money to support it. I agree with the judge that community control won’t work. This guys in an addict. He needs help to get off crack. Prison or house arrest isn’t going to get that done.

June 23, 2009 1:50 PM | Link to this

Any body that thinks it is OK to take what is not his is violent. RODNEY S. GIDDINGS believes that he owns the world and he has believed that his whole life. He has no skills and does not believe he has to put the time in to acquire any productive skills. No amount of therapy or prayer is going to teach this guy the difference between right and wrong at this point in his life. You learn every thing you need to know in kindergarten. This guy did not go to kindergarten. This guy cannot be saved. The only thing we CAN DO is save society from him. Mat heck and these judges have the power to do just that. So far mat heck has failed miserably. Mat heck should protect the public or resign.

If I had to make an educated guess I would say the owner who supposedly lost 80 large was a middle east towel wearing dirty scumbag criminal. Protect our borders boys and don’t let this garbage into our country.

anybody ever thisnk that both of theses businesses were owned by “middle eastern influenced people” maybe thats the reason they got robbed…80 large in a safe? ever heard of a bank. at least they close their safe at the end of the night. as far as the crack head that got arrested, why even waste my tax money prosecuting repeat offenders, legalize drugs, there will be a slight increase in use but eventually the abusers will do themselves in and the billion dollar budget shortfall might be paid off by the time my kid is 50 yrs old
