Children’s hospital employee arrested for stealing Vicodin
DAYTON - A 28-year-old Dayton Children’s Medical Center pharmacy technician was arrested Monday, Nov. 9, on a felony theft charge after she confessed to stealing Vicodin pills.
Jamie M. Norris said she took the pills to deal with the recent death of her father, but later said she was selling them to buy formula for her children, according to a police report.
Officials at the medical center said they launched an investigation after noticing a discrepancy in the amount of pills in their distribution center and questioned Norris about it, the report stated.
As a pharmacy technician Norris assisted pharmacists with the “preparation of medication for dispensing,” medical center spokeswoman Vicki Giambrone said.
Norris said she has been taking a small amount of Vicodin for about four to six weeks, the report stated. She changed her story again and said she was taking the pills for personal use, the report stated.
Officers arrived about 6:45 p.m. and found 13 Vicodin pills in her purse, the report stated. Norris said she had already taken two of the pills while at work.
She was then taken to the Montgomery County Jail on the theft charge. Norris has since been fired from her job at the medical center, Giambrone said.
