Wright misses practice with sickness

Sophomore forward Chris Wright has flu-like symptons and missed practice Monday. Coach Brian Gregory said Wright’s status for the Fordham game Wednesday will be evaluated after today’s practice.

Freshman guard Paul Williams has an ear infection and is considered questionable for the Fordham game, too.

If Wright — the team’s leading scorer and rebounder — doesn’t play, freshman Chris Johnson will likely get the starting nod.

Oh great! Here it starts again. Sickness and injuries were the downfall of this team last year. I can only pray that this isn’t the start of a repeat performance.

Let’s get all the sicknesses out of the way before Xavier… Fordham isn’t very good…. they can win without CW tomorrow night, if Gregory stays with one lineup, and not trying to set a sub record every game…. then again it’s Gregory….

I can live with a short term ilness, I’m just hoping that CW dos not get BCS fever and decides to play at a school like UK. As long as he remains a Flyer, I’ll be positive but I’ll understand if he leaves us for greener pastures.

Sammy you’re an idiot. Chris Wright isn’t gonna transfer and sit out a year to play at a BCS school for one season. That makes absoultely no sense at all.

CW is going no where, he came to UD because of BG and he will stay at UD because of BG. This thing about CW transfering idiotic

There are two bad things that can happen. First, Chris Wright could opt for a BCS school to raise his national presense and help his chances at becoming a lottery pick. Second, he could opt to the NBA draft this after year. Let’s just hope he is not a greedy person and will settle with staying at UD at least one more year.

If CW’s goal is to go to the NBA, transferring to a major DI program does make sense. In regards to his player development, this would give him an extra year to work on his game. While CW is a freak athletically, his current NBA draft potential is minimal until he developes a mid range game. As of now, CW does not have a pull up jumper, does not go to his left comfortably, and needs work on his handles. His intensity level and lack of pull up jumper causes him to force penetration and take out of control shots. Because of his incredible athleticism, this works in the college game. However, at 6’8’ in the NBA, not having a pull up jumper or mid range game is a liability. His upside is his potential to develope these fundamentals and his work ethic. He is the hardest working kid on the floor at any given moment and has the dedication and desire to develope these skills. Look what he did physically in three months last year while he was hurt. 15lbs of solid muscle. Additionally, he could easily find a program that does not have such an erratic substitution pattern where he could find more consistent minutes. CW should be averaging a minimum 26 minutes. I understand BG acclaims his lack of minutes to foul trouble and his defensive philosophy. However, no reason this kid shouldn’t be playing 8 to 15 minutes in a row and averaging 16 and 10. Don’t get me wrong, he is one of the reason’s I am a season ticket holder and would be disappointed if he left. However, to say that transferring to another DI program does not make sense is not valid. It makes clear sense in regards to his NBA development and national exposure.

BHoops, you may be right, but here’s the opposite side of that arguement. He can get plenty of exposure here at UD. I don’t think the NBA is going to forget about him because he doesn’t play in the ACC or Big East. Doesn’t happen. NBA scouts will be at our big games this year and next. They will find you if you have talent. Brian Roberts received plenty of national exposure last year and isnt near the level of CW. UD plays in two preseason tournaments, in 2009 and 2010. The fact is, Chris Wright is still raw. He only has a 1 full year under his belt due to the injury. He’s still turning the ball over at a good clip and making freshman mistakes in the offense. He will get more minutes as he continues to mature this season and next. B-Rob developed into a better player each year and received more minutes. Marcus Johnson is now following that suit. Chris Wright is next to come. This awful 12 man sub thing can’t last forever. We’ll probably soon lose two more games we should win, and the coaching staff will be forced into making changes (you would think).
