Wright glad to see Johnson OK
Chris Wright thought Marcus Johnson’s knee injury was serious at first. The two collided near halfcourt at the end of the St. Joe’s game Sunday, and Johnson dropped in a heap, clutching his leg.
But the junior guard was diagnosed with just a bruised knee and is expected to play Wednesday at La Salle.
“Marcus is a tough kid, but I knew it hurt,” Wright said. “When you bang knees like that, what people don’t understand is it’s bone on bone. It really does hurt. I was a little nervous. He banged my knee and I felt the impact. I was just talking to him, telling him we were going to pull it out.”
The 69-58 win over St. Joe’s was just what the Flyers needed for their confidence after squeaking by Saint Louis by a point in their previous outing.
“That’s an NCAA tournament-caliber team, a team that’s capable of winning our league and a player (Ahmad Nivins) that’s pushing for player of the year in our league. He was working down there. He’s a great player,” Wright said.
“Their whole team is really good. Every time we threw something at them, they came right back with something.”
Little heats up: After going scoreless against St. Bonaventure on Jan. 25, UD’s Charles Little has scored 27 points in his last two games.
“I’m just trying to be aggressive, get to the foul line and get some easy points,” he said.
Foul shots were no easy proposition for Little for much of his career, but he’s made 12-of-13 free throws in his last two outings, raising his percentage from 57.9 to 67.3.

I have a bad feeling that Chris Wright is going to be transferring to a BCS school after the season. Even if he does, I think we will be stronger for it.

Herman, do you have any basis for that “bad feeling”, or do you just like wallowing in depression?

I don’t see that happening. Chris has more heart than people give him credit for—which translates into a sense of commitment and loyalty. The future looks nothing but bright for Dayton—with Little being the only Senior! The last thing impression I would ever have of Wright is that he is selfish. The impression I get from him is the exact opposite—and THAT will make him a star at UD. When Wright is a Senior, this team will be more than a formidable force nationally, you watch!

Bub’s right. CW is from Trotwood. He understands what UD basketball is about. He wouldn’t have committed to our school if he wanted to go somewhere else. He’s here for the long haul and next year and the year after is going to be SWEET. By the way, this year we are 20-2. Go Flyers!

Herm, I’ve gotten a good laugh at watching you post that “bad feeling” all over the internet. I can’t blame you for trying to dream Chris Wright away before he beats your Musketeers.

If Chris chases his NBA dream, all the more power to him. If it helps him make it to the big time I say go for it Chris. We appreciate the two years that he spent with the program.

CW, wile extremely athletic, is a long way from being ready for the NBA. He needs to become a threat to score in situations other than the fast-break and alley-oop dunk. Don’t get me wrong. I love his ability and and effort. He has nack for making the big play. We would not be where we are without him but he has work to do before attempting the NBA and I am guessing if you would ask him he would agree.

If he transfers - he loses a year of playing time. Why would he do that? You have been saying this for weeks - stop it. You sound so stupid. He is from the Miami Valley Area and has wanted to play here for years. He was recruited by bigger schools and chose Dayton because he is an honorable guy - why would he change his mind now? You sound foolish. CW has the chance to not only go down as the BEST player to ever don a Flyer uniform, but the the most successful. This team can and will do very well for the next several seasons. GO UD!!!

BCS has no meaning in basketball.

Seriously, people need an IQ test before posting on here. Nobody in college basketball transfers to BCS schools. Nobody. It is stupid and pointless. Hey dumba*ses, if going to BCS schools mis the only way you get drafted why would Stephen Curry still be at Davidson or all of the multiple players that Gonzaga has produced? This is ridiculous. The only way Chris Wright is leavin UD early is if he is assured First Round draft status. To all of the Copernicus’s out there: He is not going to transfer to a BCS School so he can sit out an entire year and start his career all over again. I hope this clears up the discussion.

The only value I see in Lowery and Warren is that they really hound their guys on defense. On offense, they are poor dribblers and even worse passers. It’s hard to believe that Thomas was 2 time player of the year in Indy and can’t play ahead of these two.

herman where do you dream up this stuff? Randy agree some stuff on here is very hard to read, you wonder about some of these comments. Rodger Brown..if even if you were the real Rodger Brown, those two guards would hound you into turnovers and mistakes.

That’s Roger without the d. He would have been the greatest player UD ever had. Lowery and Warren couldn’t have carried his jockstrap.

Few things- 1:The idea Chris Wright is leaving UD is absurd. Why would he leave a program he is the obvious focal point of? Not to mention, next year Little’s the only loss which will surely be addition by subtracion after Benson and Kavanaugh take those minutes. 2: I don’t understand why there is a debate on the PG position. London would be a great back-up playing 15 minutes sparking the squad on the defensive end and hopefully not making too many poor decisions. The real point guard on this team is Lowery because he can extend the floor and makes (a few) better decisions than London, while playing comparable defense.

RogerBrown. Don’t be so quick to drink LW and RL haterade. Your lack of basketball IQ has decieved you. In fact, RL is 5th in the a-10 in assists and LW is 13th. Last time I checked, to be top 15 in any statistical category is impressive. In addition, What you don’t realize is that RL averages 6 assist to every 2 turnover, 4th best in confrence. LW is 12th best at 4 assist to every 2 turnovers. Combined, the FLYER’s guards provide 24 points of offense to only 4 turnovers. Pretty good. Greg Anthony, former college and NBA great, stated the FLYERS have the quickest offense transition game he has seen this year. That includes North Carolina. Guess who is the catalyst that leads the attack. LW and RL. Those dreadlocks must be aerodynamic. RL is third on team in scoring and single handedly beat Marquette. This might help, an assist is defined as a pass to another player that results in a score. How can they be such bad passers and poor dribblers and still be at the top of the list in two categories that are directly related to passing and dribbling? They can’t be… You statement indicates you don’t know what you are watching…

I live in Indianapolis, and am a UD grad. Stephen Thomas is a great player who can shoot consistently (unlike LW and RL) and make good calm decisions with good passes and controlled dribbling. Why he isn’t starting is incredulous to me. He doesn’t give up anything on defense to deserve playing behind those out of control dreadheads.

Stephen Thomas is a solid guard in the half court set. I agree he needs more minutes. Especially against a team like Saint Louis who looks to slow the game down. However, the FLYERS are not a half court team. They are up tempo offensive transition team who relies on defense and rebounding to create opportunities in the open court. To play that style you need quick guards who can push the ball down the floor. Unfortunately, Thomas’s game is not suited for up-tempo style of play.

Stone, while I like Thomas, he gives up A LOT on the defensive end when compared to RL and LW. He can’t do a 1/4 of what the other two can do defensively. He just doesn’t have the strength or quickness. I like him in the half-court offense, but that’s not what this team is based on. He does well within the role he plays now.

Joe, you dont have to play on a BCS team to be seen. The scouts know who you are, they knew about CW in high school. Its not the name across the chest, its the work you put into it and CW will be a 1st round pick after his junior year.

Doug, While I agree CW has a chance to be one of the Best to ever play at U.D., He has a long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same category as Roosevelt Chapman. His game still has a lot of holes.

All the NBA Scouts know who Chris Wright is. He doesn’t have to transfer to raise his profile. The A-10 is scouted by all NBA teams.. Jameer Nelson of the Magic came from St. Joe’s. David West came from Xavier. Chris also knows that this is the start of something big for Dayton. A possible NCAA berth this season and an even better team next year. Chris will stay with the Flyers.
