Vitale gives UD’s Wright a mention
College basketball analyst Dick Vitale unveiled his All-Rolls-Royce team today on ESPN.com and made Dayton’s Chris Wright an honorable-mention pick. The junior forward probably deserves a higher spot on the squad, but that still makes him one of the top 50 players in the nation, according to Dickie V.
In other UD news:
• UD coach Brian Gregory will be featured on ESPNU during a broadcast of one of the games from the national AAU tournament in Orlando on Sunday. The tip-off is at 5:30 p.m., and Gregory is scheduled to be interviewed by Andy Katz during the third quarter.
• The Flyers’ upset of West Virginia in the NCAA tournament will be rebroadcast at 8 p.m. today on CBS College Sports, formerly CSTV. If you get that channel, those four Wright dunks are probably worth a second look.

Give us the news not your opinion. There is no way Wright deserves a higher ranking.By fan

who ever said he doesn’t deserve a higher mark, must not have seen him play. He should be in the top 25. Go to a game and check him out before making a statement.By Rick

In a really watered down talent pool that is college basketball he is a top 50 player.By frenchie

I will never understand some of the posters on here? Dick Vitale is an expert college basketball analyst, unlike the local yahoos who post stupid remarks on here. No doubt Chris Wright is a top 50 and he will make a fine living playing the game after he is done with his college career. DDN keep up the good job letting us know how the local atheltes are doing.By bub

agree with “frenchie”… I’m not sure why so many people get on here simply to be so negative? Chris is not a fully developed player, but is surely on his way—and on top of that, he is a great example of a student athlete—positive, well-grounded, focused, and responsible. Not that negative opinions aren’t valid from time to time, but wow, some of you can’t seem to find better things to do than gripe about the UD basketball program—which at this point, is just about the only remaining positive, nationally exposed asset that this city has.By OSU Joe

You know you are a low-major when you write an article about DV mentioning a players name. This is why no one takes UD seriously.By OSU fan

Douggie Harris, how about mentioning Evan Turner (OSU) who actually was selected third team? Chrissy Wright did not even make the 7th team. Is that why people call this rag the UDDN?By mz

i do think Wright has to develop his game but i think it is easy to say he is a top 50 player. if he leaves after the season he will get drafted late first or early second, that would be top 50.By This is a Blog and Blog = Opinion

Hey ZZZ: I am not sure if you understand the difference between a Blog versus an actual news article. Doug Harris wrote this in his BLOG. That inherently means it IS OPINION. Clearly Doug Harris knows the difference and wrote his opinion on his BLOG. It is also, unfortunately, clear that you do not know the difference ZZZ. Ignorance is such a waste of time.By dannythedog

Wright can run fast and jump high. He sucks at basketball. He will suck if he gets drafted. He has no jumper. He is great at driving to the hoop and turning the ball over. His game has not progressed at all. That is a sign of either bad coaching or a stupid player. Personally I think it’s a little of both.By FlyerOne

Thanks, Doug for another update! Keep ‘em coming, because all week we’re talking about how obsessed we are with Flyer basketball, and it’s only July! - More coverage by the DDN results in a stronger newspaper/website. Chris Wright is developing into a monster. What? That happens overnight? Oh. You negative losers out there wouldn’t want him on your college team? Wait. You didn’t go to college. Whoops! You’re one of those “I’m unclear on exactly where Ohio State’s campus is … but I am a Buckeye Fan despite not going there!” Blah blah blah …By NYC Flyer

Keep the news coming even though other fans don’t understand. Yes us Flyers fans like when our school gets mentioned nationally, even if its a little comment like Dicky Vs. Why? Because we have not been relevant nationally in years! This is an exciting time to be a Flyers fan. There is a different, more talented level of ball players on this team, and even higher rated players yet to come. A legitimate program has been built and should be consistently good from this point on. Sure, in 5 years UD fans won’t get as excited with random comments of recognition such as this one from Dicky V. But for now it feels good. Locally, we know we have a really good team for the 09/10 season with one of the better players in the country. The rest of the college basketball world is starting to recognize this and that’s good to see.By david k

Wright is legit. He is a potential 1st round NBA pick in 2010. Reality is Dayton is morphing into a top national program right before our eyes. Name the two schools with a top 100 recruit at both the point and shooting guard for 2010…North Carolina and Dayton. Gregory is getting it done.By Brian

“OSU Joe” and “OSU Fan:” Forget about comparing Dayton and Ohio State basketball…there is no comparison. Ohio State is in the rear-view mirror of UD, XU, and even Cleveland State (while the Bucks were being handled by Siena, CSU knocked off 3rd-seeded Wake Forest). You slobs should stick to what you’re best at: worshipping Ohio State football, and the criminals they employ, like Maurice Clarett, Jamal Berry, Louis Irizarry and Ira Guillory. Ohio State is nothing more than an agricultural school with extremely low admission standards (one requirement, however, seems to be prior offenses). OSU fans should stop wasting their energy on demands for respect, and do something useful like find a job, lose weight and see a dentist for the first time.By Ben

I guarantee you, two-thirds of the OSU fan base has no idea who Irizarry and Guillory were or what they did. I do. “Uninformed?” I think not. And, while young Jamaal’s offense was lower-tier, he did break the law. Period. Admission standards met!By Festoon Fussnucker

Chris Wright is the most talented player to ever don a Flyer uniform. Unless he develops an outside shot he is not going first round, though. He and Evan Turner deserved higher ratings, Vitale only cares about the ACC and Big Least.By sec 312
