Flyers pull away for victory
Dayton pulled away down the stretch for a 58-50 victory over Old Dominion before 13,159 fans tonight.
Chris Wright had 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Marcus Johnson added 12 points for the Flyers (7-2).
Old Dominion (6-4), the preseason Colonial Athletic Conference favorite, gave UD a tough time. The Flyers led by just one with 3:51 to go. But Wright scored on a dunk and Johnson made a 3-pointer for a 54-48 lead with 2:32 left.
Luke Fabrizius, the Flyers’ long-range bomber, injured his right knee just five minutes into the game and watched the rest of the action on crutches.

The Flyers will see that zone all season long. They need to breakdown the back side and at other times flood one side. Thank God we’re hitting free throws! RLow was a good change of pace.

There wasn’t much movement against that three-man front zone. But when they did penetrate by using “zip” passes and movement without the ball, Dayton looked good. They need to find their shooting touch, and it seems C. Johnson, Williams, M. Johnson, and Lowery will need to find their stroke if UD is to be much of a fource later in the year. Losing Luke can’t help, but perhaps he will be back sooner than later. Nonetheless, this win was against a good team. One thought against a three man front - post two guys on the block below the three-man front, and two in the “seams” of the front. Use CJ or Wright as the runner along the bottom, and you will break that zone every time!

Dayton did not look good this week. G. Mason and ODU? The good news is Xavier looked awful this week against K. state. I know a wins a win and it’s only Dec but Ud’s weak ooc schedule will hurt them come selection sunday.
