Throwback jerseys to be worn against Presbyterian

Dayton will be wearing throwback jerseys from the 1969-70 season in its game against Presbyterian College (2-9) on Saturday.

The ‘69-70 season was the first at UD arena, and it was a great year for the Flyers. They finished 19-8 and played in the NCAA tournament. George Jackson led the team in rebounding with a 14.5 mark (can you imagine having someone like that today?), and Ken May was the scoring leader with a 17.0 average.

Here’s another little tidbit: UD was fifth nationally in attendance that year, drawing 12,982 per game. Other big arenas have been built since then, and the popularity of college basketball has grown. UD averaged 12,765 fans last season and ranked 27th nationally.

Well Amy, crappy uniforms against a crappy team (Presbyterian College). That is a match made in heaven. By the way, what is Presbyterian College ranked? Are they in the top 350?

Hey guys, ease up on Presbterian College. They have two really impressive wins. They beat Montreat and Southern Colleges. Those are two really impressive wins.

Before throwing Dayton under the bus for scheduling Presbyterian - realize that this season they also play(ed): Clemson Illinois North Carolina Ohio State Marquette Florida Just Sayin

The team has been itaking examxs all week and have practiced like they normally do. Academics first -they are STUDENT athletes. PC is one of those schools willing to play the big boys after exams. Didn’t they get clobbered by OSU recently? I would imagine that their athletic dept. is making some cash from playing these teams. Let’s allow the Flyers shake off the rust and enjoy the blowout. We won’t see many like this!

I don’t know what you guys are talking about with the uni’s they are great. I just wish Dayton would start selling some throwback jerseys and shorts in the bookstore.

Why the hell can’t we get a big school to play at the UD Arena. S**t, X, Gonzaga, Butler, and a bunch of other mid-majors can get it done. BG has shown he has no clue in scheduling. Great coach, but can’t schedule worth a crap.

Hey Rob (aka dumb f**k). Don’t compare ud to tOSU. You guys win one friggin NCAA game in 25 years does not make you a big boy. ask Chris Wright, people ask him all the time whether ud is D-II or D-III.

Be careful what you ask for, you might just get it. We are 1-2 against the big boys. If we schedule BCS schools, we very well could end up with a losing record going into conference play.

I like the throwbacks, I wish they sold the shorts and last years powder blue ones because I would buy them for Christmas.

Not too long ago, everybody thought St. Mary’s and Sienna were cake schools too, and look how far they’ve come! All it takes is a few really good players that don’t hit the big boy’s radar, and they become the next Gonzaga. PresP might be one of those in a year or two, and the exposure they get with their current schedule can only help them. As to a Flyer blowout, have we had one yet this season? UD has a long way to go before we can anticipate a blow out against anybody!

Hey Presbyterian just played Ohio State and N. Carolina so get off Dayton for playing them… Now if the Flyers had Wright State on their schedule you might have a point that the Flyers are playing too mnay softies…

OSU Joe, come back and talk when you can beat a Horizon school..or Sienna for that matter.

I would like to see a picture of one of the players from the 69-70 team in uniform side by side with Marcus Johnson. It would be an interesting contrast in conditioning. That kid is ripped.

Only on this website can a harmless story about retro uniforms crumble into BG can’t schedule, is UD D2 or D3, blah blah blah. What you should be doing (OSU Joe) is writing a thank you to those of us who work and pay taxes to support you.

What a true idiot OSU joe is. so, because we have only won one game in the tourney for a while, we cannot point out that we have a common opponent with OSU. What a schmuck. Has to be the dumbest thing i have ever heard. You do not deserve an ounce of credibility in anything you say. BTW, those uni’s are awesome.

“OSU Joe:” do you even follow OSU basketball?? Don’t you know that the Suckeyes got outplayed ON THEIR HOME FLOOR vs Presbyterian on Tuesday? I feel for you because you’re obviously not bright enough to understand reality and facts. And, no one has ever asked Wright what division UD is in. Get back to work now…the toilets are in need of a good scrub.

Open Letter to OSU Blow & the rest of sad folks critical of all things UD on this board: Take time this holiday season to go F-150 Surfing and don’t hold on too tight. Ouch, too soon gentle lambs?

All you have to do is look at any photo from 69-70 to know those aren’t what the Flyers wore. The shorts aren’t even close and the number design is different. I mean, why go to the trouble if you aren’t even going to do it correctly? The best unis back then were when Johnny Davis came along—they were styled like UCLA’s, and doggone if Davis didn’t almost lead them to an upset of the Bruins his freshman year!!!

Quit complaining about playing a weakling like Presbyterian. After all we have two powerhouses coming in right after their visit (Appalachian State & Boston University). That ought to impress the NCAA selection committee.

Why the hell did Dougiie Harris spend so much time writing how great the ud flyers would be this year? And now, Ohio State is ranked and ud is nowhere to be found… well, at least we have a nice mid-major match up against Presbyterian… Are they even D-I?

By Kurt

December 18, 2009 8:34 PM | Link to this

Well, Fed Up since you are so enamored with OSU, you should be able to tell us about Presbyterian since the Buckeyes were their last opponent. And you are correct, 7-2 with an RPI below 35…what a horrible start to the season. Yet another inspiring post.
