Flyers put recent woes behind them
Dayton was playing its fourth game in 10 days, and that stretch included agonizing losses to Saint Louis in double-overtime and by two to Duquesne.
UMass, on the other hand, had a whole week to prepare for the Flyers.
“Those were difficult losses on the road, emotional and physical,” UD coach Brian Gregory said. “I was worried. And then this team hasn’t played a game in a week, and they’re fresh and excited and the whole bit.”
As it turns out, the coach had no reason to be concerned. The Flyers feasted on UMass’ porous defense and put up their highest point total in seven years under Gregory in a 96-68 win.
Mickey Perry tied his career high with 15 points, while Chris Wright had 14 and Rob Lowery 13.
“I’m pleased with our performance,” Gregory said. “We really wanted to … play at a pace that was aggressive and confident, and I think we did that.”
The resiliency of these players was a good sign. I expected them to play a little tight — especially when fans became somewhat restless during a subpar second-half stretch. But that wasn’t the case.
Of course, UMass isn’t Temple. And playing at UD Arena is a lot easier than going to Saint Louis or Duquesne or anywhere else on the road.
Still, they shrugged off a horrendous outing against the Owls and shot 55 percent from the field.
“Some nights you can’t get anything going,” guard Marcus Johnson said. “Wednesday (against Temple), we couldn’t get anything going. We missed a lot of layups and left a lot of points out there. But we got it going tonight.”
Every game is of the utmost importance at this point, and it would behoove the Flyers to keep it going.

Playing at UD or anywhere else NCAA games are played is exactly the same. ALL court dimensions are identical! UD teams need to change one thing about their games (especially away games) and it is in-between their ears.

Saying that UMass is not Temple is an understatement. UMass is not the level of Wright State.
