Flyers getting some pub for NIT run
NEW YORK — Dayton had a nice write-up today in the New York Times and USA Today after its semifinal win over Mississippi. The NIT is overshadowed, of course, by the NCAA tournament but not completely eclipsed.
By the way, Chris Johnson ended up with just a nick on his chin, but his injury could have been much worse after an Ole Miss player took a swing at him, as this picture shows.
The UD sophomore was the target of a punch by Reginald Buckner with 3:09 left in the Flyers’ 68-63 victory. Buckner was called for a “T” and Johnson made both free throws for a six-point lead.

This picture is misleading. If you watch the clip, the Miss. player is shoving with his forearm, not punching. The closed fist in this shot gives the wrong impression.

Good Luck Tonight Flyer’s. Tarheels will go down if you attack rim and play with poise and composure. Hit your foul shots and we win going away. Thanks for a great finish to a crazy season. You’ve made this Flyer from Jersey PROUD!!!!

UD players seem to always be in these fights. You call XU punks but it seems to be the bad boyz that are the true punk are UD players. Just bc it says Dayton on their chest does not mean they are good guys. Another National Championship awaits the flyers. NIT should be changed to NVIT - Not Very Important Tournament.

If a “fight” is two guys grab a rebound, one gets mad and gives a forearm to the other guy’s chin, then yes, that was a fight. Both guys were fighting for the ball, only one of them hit the other in the chin. I agree it’s not really accurate to call it a punch, but there’s no doubt it deserved a T. I still don’t get why loser fans of otehr teams would take the time to post on the Dayton Daily News comments section on a UD article. What is missing in your life that you need to talk trash on an anonymous comment section?

nyc - what’s up with you? Did you watch the game on TV? It was not a punch. Daytonian at large is exactly right in his assessment. fight, fight - UD players are not punks. You obviously have some kind of issue with the Flyers. You have exposed yourself for what you are.

Tom its not hard to figure out, one of the sports outlets wrote an article about X having an identity crisis. X made pamphetes proclaiming they are a Major program and not mid major. And the sports world is making fun of them. X and tOSU Joe are the only ones who constantly post here to make themselves feel better about themselves. Sad.

I post here all the time, and Xavier has a much better program than UD. I actually like UD, it is the fans I hate. Somehow they think their “wife” is a super model. Your “wife” (UD basketball) is a nice lady, but she ain’t no cover gal. The fans ruin UD basketball. They think other teams have punk player (see Rob “A swing and a miss” Lowery) and somehow UD is some great acedmic institution. Again, it is a nice place. But there are a lot of nice places. This is Dayton. Most laugh at us. This town and the fans think they are important. I was sitting next to an old man at the UD game a month ago and he was wondering when UD would catch up to Carolina or Duke or Kansas. I made it crystal clear to the old man that UD will never be that good, so don’t hold your breath. UD fans can start behaving like jerks when the have the success of Xavier for the last 25 years. Like 8 sweet 16s…. 20+ tourney apperance, a couple of elite 8s. UD ain’t even close. Good luck tonight.

So you browbeat an old man in the stands for saying something wishful/hopeful about his team? And you relate this story while talking about what jerks UD fans are… just goes to show you, the best comedy often comes from those who don’t realize how hilarious they are.

The old man has the same attitude of younger fans. UD fans think there program is top 20. It may be top 75 ,..,..,.. MAYBE. That old man is who convinced young loser UD fans that UD is important. NIT….. wowwwww…. while XU is in the NCAA every year. UD fans are punks. I would love to wrastle one….

We’re #66! We’re #66! Raise another NIT banner to the rafters of dusty old UDump Arena! Hey, what year is it again? Sad to see how far the Flyers and their delusional fans have fallen. Dayton is a third-class city with a third-class basketball program.
