Berry dropped by UD after arrests

Dayton has announced that Jesse Berry, a guard from West Lafayette, Ind., has been granted a release from the national letter of intent he signed in November.

Berry has been arrested twice during this school year, the first on a theft charge and the second on April 2 for assault with bodily harm.

The Flyers will have four players in the 2010 recruiting class.

In a statement released by UD, coach Brian Gregory said: “I talked with Jesse and his family and we mutually agreed that it would be in everyone’s best interests to pursue other options, Jesse is a good kid, and I’m very proud of the effort that he is putting in to gain his initial eligibility. Now he will be able to concentrate on finishing his senior year in a positive manner. We will remain in contact with him to help him determine his best options for his future as a student-athlete..”

Berry averaged 23.2 points a game for Lafayette Jefferson High School this season.

That’s OK by me. Sounds like Jesse has some maturing to do before he’s ready to tackle college basketball.

Xavier will pick this kid up and use him to beat our brains in. They have no standards.

I bet Roger Goodell is chompin at the bit for Jesse to switch to playing football, so in 3 or 4 years maybe he’ll get drafted into the NFL. Fresh meat for the Commish to play God with! Glad UD dropped him though. He was a train wreck waiting to happen at the college level. This kid needs lots of help.

Good Luck to Jesse Berry in his future education and possible basketball career. Again, Brian Gregory demonstrates that the UD program demands not only the highest talent and commitment, but also the highest character.

Didn’t Brian find it strange that just about everyone pulled their offers from Berry. Usually a red flag when no one in your home state wants you.

So the program stays “squeaky clean,” which is laudable, we sure could have used a top-notch shooting guard to run with Juwan Staten (SP?)… The paper said that Berry was to come to Dayton immediately after he finished school, presumably to keep him out of trouble; he doesn’t sound like a terrible kid, just needs to be around the right influences, which could have happened for him here I think. Too bad.

It’s still the late signing period. BG might have another player ready to sign…Maybe a Jucco to play the 4/5 spot?

Way to go Brian!! This goes to show that we at U.D. have standards; players, coaches, and fans. That is why we have the greatest fan base in the country, and will to continue to be proud of our NIT CHAMPS.

Give him to Wright State. Maybe they can keep this one out of the pharmacy. Hey, at least Wright State players and coaches are concerned about their health. First vitamins, now condoms. Doesn’t that Wright State kid know about the free clinic?

It seems to me that there are so many of these good high School players that think that the laws and morals do not apply to them. This why professional sports is so full of thugs now. Just because they are good at sports they are given special considerations from Little League all through their life.

Jesse belongs south Cincinnati or Xavier ..Our rivally has always been “convicts against cathlics” when it comes to playing Cicinnati teams..He just would have caused our coach and fans many heart aches over the years..bye bye grief.wish he would have recruited G. Johnson from Dumdar or A.J,Pacher from Butler instead..

I was going to compliment UD for taking the action they did on this, but the X comments changed my mind. Our graduates will continue to beat your brains in, and as for the Catholics v. Convicts, last time I looked, the Jesuits are the TRUE Catholic educators
