Rutgers job doesn’t interest Gregory

Rutgers is looking for a basketball coach, and both the Star-Ledger in New Jersey and the Home News Tribune in East Brunswick, N.J., reported that Dayton coach Brian Gregory is a prime candidate.

There appeared to be some substance to the reports, but Gregory again reiterated today he’s not interested in other jobs and is staying at UD.

Former Flyer Postorino joins Purnell at DePaul

Former Dayton basketball coach Oliver Purnell has filled his staff in his new job at DePaul and has taken former Flyer Josh Postorino with him from Clemson.

Postorino was the first player signed by Purnell at UD. He lettered all four seasons (1995-99) and played in 75 career games with the Flyers, graduating with a Marketing degree in 1999.

According to media reports, Purnell retained three members of last season’s DePaul coaching staff: Billy Garrett, David Booth and Brandon Bailey.

Two other assistants, Ron Bradley and Kevin Nickelberry, have worked with Purnell in the past like Postorino.

“After a lot of careful analysis and thought, I believe I’ve put together a staff that will help me build a tremendous program here at DePaul,” Purnell said. “This staff will provide the energy, the work ethic, the expertise and the desire that it takes to establish a program at a high level.”
