UD’s Wright interviewed on national TV

Dayton senior forward Chris Wright was interviewed by phone on ESPN2’s “First Take” today. He’s working at LeBron James’ Skills Academy this week, and the studio hosts wanted any inside info they could get about the King.

Wright was respectful of James’ privacy and answered all the questions intelligently during the four-minute interview.

One blunder made by ESPN2, though, was showing a picture of Wright under the heading “Dayton guard.”

“It’s been real crazy,” Wright said. “There’s been a lot of media attention. … When we get on the bus, there’s been a whole lot of media attention surrounding LeBron. I think it’s just added pressure because it’s the biggest decision of LeBron’s career.”

Wright was matched up with James during some pick-up games with the rest of the college counselors.

“I’ve been knowing LeBron for a couple years now. Going one-on-one with him, sometimes out on the wing, is a dream come true every time I step on the court. That’s one of the best basketball players in the world. To go up against him, it’s an honor.”

How’d Wright play?

“I did all right. I know he’s strong. He’s super strong. Once he gets you on his hip, there isn’t any stopping him.”

Any trash-talking?

“Sometimes — just about the whole free agency thing. I tell him if he was (considering) Dayton, the decision would be a whole lot easier.

“But there’s not a whole lot of trash-talking. He’s the kind of guy who lets his game talk. Damon Jones is talking more trash than LeBron.”

What would the right decision be for James?

“That’s my favorite player. Wherever he goes, I’ll be happy with it. I can’t be selfish in the sense of saying I want him to go to my favorite team. He has to do what’s comfortable for him.

“He’s said (the process) has been fun. Being in his mid-20s, at that age, some people can’t handle it. He’s put himself in position to go to any team because of his work ethic. He’s just sitting back putting the pieces together, and he’s going to make a decision from there.”

Great interview, I am so proud and thankful that Mr. Chris Wright is not only a great young man, but one that young men and women can look up to. Didn’t get a chance to see the interview but I know that he did an excellent job at representing the state of Ohio as well as Dayton. Keep up the great work Chris and may God continue to bless you.

ESPN will interview anyone who might have overheard LeBron say where he is going. They even interviewed the pizza delivery man. I just hope CW can learn another skill so people will quit calling him a “One-trick pony”.

Overall, Chris Wright has been a real disappointment. He turns the ball over way too much and he has fallen in love with his right handed dribble to the basket. In the NBA, he’d get that shot rejected every time. But it works great when we play against the bottom 25 teams in the country.

Chris, This is another sign that you were meant to be a “media star”. Basketball is the vehicle to take you there. Study hard and work on your game but realize you have an audience!

In what ways, exactly, has Chris Wright disappointed you Amy? Was it choosing UD over UK? starting as a frosh and dominating before getting hurt? Avging 13/7 on an NIT champ team?

YAAAAAAAAWN…..Must be a real slow news day. I’m going back to sleep. Wake me if CW gets a hangnail or Staten’s dad gets interviewed again.
