What if Dayton is one of last four in?

I like what the NCAA is doing in making some of the at-large teams play their way into the NCAA tournament. I didn’t think it would be fair to have champions from the lower-ranked conferences have to fill all eight of those spots in the “First Four” games, as the NCAA is calling them.

I also hope Dayton is awarded the at-large games in addition to the match-ups of the 16 and 17 seeds, but my fear is the selection committee will say, “We know those Arkansas Pine-Bluff games will sell at UD Arena, let’s give them both of those and send the at-large teams elsewhere.”

I think UD’s track record the last 10 years with the play-in game should be noted and a tradition that started with the tourney kicking off here should continue.

That said, it could create an interesting twist if the four games do come to Dayton and the Flyers are one of the last four in. Do they get a home game out of the deal? I’d imagine the selection committee would do its best to keep the Flyers out of that last-four-in category in that instance, but that’s a dilemma that would have to be addressed.

The Flyers very well could be in that situation in any given season. CBS Sportsline did a mock bracket from last year using the new tourney format and actually had the Flyers as one of the last four in.

You’d think the members of the selection committee have a contingency plan. But wouldn’t it be great if they didn’t?

No biggie. Committee has always reserved the right to move a team up or down one seed line on the “S” curve. I doubt they would put the Flyers at home - just keep them out of the “First Four”. Long term, I see two sites for the “First Four” games. That would solve the Flyer “problem”.

“Fair?” What’s your definition of Fair, Doug? For crying out loud, it’s a tournament for the National Championship. You don’t think it should be a true seed, because somebody might get their feelings hurt? Some teams should get a pass ‘cause you and your ilk (let’s give everybody a Trophy) are afraid of offending someone?? What you’re saying, Doug, is you don’t want the tournament to be seeded FAIR, you just want everybody to feel good about themselves. You need to grow a pair and call a spade a spade. Teams have every opportunity in the scheduling process to play teams and put themselves into the position of not having to be in the “First Four.” That’s Fair!

What if Wright STate was in that situation. UD arena is not their home court, so I wonder if they would keep them there. Probably not, but it would be great

Would UD allow WSU to play on their floor? Even if it where in the tournament. What if WSU and UD got matched up against each other, then UD would finally have to play that game.

UD Arena is NOT Wright State’s home. Therefore, Wright State could play there in the tournament. Dayton could not. As far as fair, the selection committee should stop giving so much weight to the BCS conferences. The BCS is for football, not basketball, and just because a school has a great football team does not make their basketball team better. The teams should be judged by what they do on the floor, and agaisnt whom; and not on who their football team plays. (otherwise, Dayton would get overlooked every year.)

What if Doug Harris had talent? I think the funny thing here is that Doug is talking about UD and playing on it’s home court. How about a former UD BASKETBALL PLAYER COVERING THE UD BASKETBALL TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This link should answer the questions pretty simply. . The better a team is, the more priority they have in remaining close to home, but no team can actually play on its home court if it is hosting “tournament games (generally, games are hosted on neutral courts, so this is not usually a problem). Sometimes a top team may be a short drive away from its games” So very simply Wright State would be allowed to play at UD Arena but UD would not. This rule is the main reason the NCAA hasn’t awarded Dayton the play in games yet.
