Wright gets another invite from USA Basketball

Dayton’s Chris Wright will get another crack at facing Kevin Durant and other members of the U.S. national team, having been one of 10 college players invited back to practice against the NBA stars in New York City on Aug. 9-13.

The rest of the USA Basketball select team, which will be coached by Villanova’s Jay Wright, includes Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith (Duke), JaJuan Johnson (Purdue), Jon Leuer (Wisconsin), Shelvin Mack (Butler), Chris Singleton (Florida State), Howard Thompkins (Georgia), Mike Tisdale (Illinois) and Kemba Walker (Connecticut).

“One of the great developments of our Las Vegas camp was the USA select team which consisted of juniors and seniors out of the college ranks that we brought in to scrimmage against the USA National Team,” USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said in a statement. “It worked so well we’ve decided to bring a smaller group of players from that select team to New York to do the same thing. They were very valuable to us and it’s a great experience for them,”

Wright is 32nd in career scoring at UD with 1,127 points and was named to the All-Atlantic 10 first team as a junior last season. The Flyers have averaged 25 wins per season since Wright’s freshman year.

The roster for the U.S. national team, which will compete in the FIBA World Championships in Turkey on Aug. 12-Sept. 28, has been trimmed to 15. The group includes Durant, Russell Westbrook and Jeff Green (Oklahoma City); Chauncey Billups (Denver); Tyson Chandler (Dallas); Stephen Curry (Golden State); Rudy Gay (Memphis); Eric Gordon (Los Angeles Clippers); Danny Granger (Indiana); Andre Iguodala (Philadelphia); Brook Lopez (New Jersey); Kevin Love (Minnesota); Lamar Odom (Los Angeles Lakers); Rajon Rondo (Boston); and Derrick Rose (Chicago).

The team, which is coached by Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, will need to be cut down to 12 for the championships.

Where are all the WSU homers to crap all over this news as well? Can’t be in class or studying…we know how that school is…must be nursing hangovers or trying to come up with some way to attack Wright now? Oh wait, they are working at the drive-thru so they can pay their 1500tuition and get that promotion to assistant manager after they get their high school, er I mean “college” degree from WSU.

If CW was such a great player, he wouldn’t be playing for a mid-major like dayton.

Playing for a school like ud either means that you are a lower level player or you lack confidence that you can play with the big boys.

I wish CW were more worried about winning an A10 championship than impressing anyone with his leaping ability. He needs to step up and lead. The team down south puts players in the NBA because they win Championships and make noise in the NCAA on a consistent basis. If I ever get out of my grandma’s basement,I’m gonna make sure I tell CW in person because he is really good.

@ Squidlegs …Chris wasn’t the reason Dayton didn’t win the A10 title…It was Dayton’s point guard play or lack there of…Too many turnovers in crucial situations killed Dayton title chances..

@where are the raiders? I believe the only way you know that the raiders are working at a fast food restaurant is because they are working with your mom. You mention having someone crap on the exciting news, then you go ahead and sound like a child by dragging something else into it. Grow up.
