UD in final three for Gibson
Percy Gibson, the 6-foot-9 senior who pulled out of his letter-of-intent with Dayton, is still considering becoming a Flyer, according to a source with knowledge of Gibson’s recruitment.
The Detroit Southeastern High School star intends to take three official visits after narrowing down his list of options and then make a decision at the end of May. UD is scheduled to be his third visit.
In other Flyer news, Allen Griffin, a former Syracuse standout guard who spent last season on the staff at Hofstra, has been hired as an assistant at UD. Griffin is a Brooklyn, N.Y., native and coached in the New York City area and could open up recruiting roads to perhaps the nation’s No. 1 hotbed for high school talent.
“I’ve talked to so many people about this opportunity and what they think, and every one I’ve spoken to said, ‘Griff, you have to take it and run with it. It’s not a good opportunity, it’s a great opportunity,’ ” Griffin said of coming to Dayton.

Doug: Welcome back! Was wondering about you just yesterday on FlyerHoops. It is good to hear about Gibson. Some people can never have a positive thought about UD. (Rob P)

Percy, Rob P. is either using reverse psychology on you or he’s a Wright State Fan! UD would most certainly welcome you as a student and as an athlete. Don’t doubt for a minute that you would find a family away from home at UD and enjoy tremendous fan support.

Listen to Rob, although I am a UD supporter, you will probably be disappointed. The program has declined for years and you can do better.Sad but true.

anyone know the other schools? I bet Michigan State is one. I sure hope Ga.Tech isnt the other, all the good will and honor BG built up would be washed away if he is sniffing around. Id much rather get Gibson then Buckets if i had to choose, we have too many wing players as it is, we need a banger. If he comes here, he’s an automatic 4 year starter. Go Flyers!!!

Gibson, run for your life, while you have an unblemished reputation.UD is barely alive.Do not be fooled by the crazy nut job fans at Dayton. They are very fickle.Git while you can.

Hey Randy N …you got a short memory. UD won the NIT the year before. Also beat 4 BCS teams along the way. Some of you people think that basketball is dead at UD. You must be a UD hater!

To Don I like UD as a school, just not the basketball program.Don’t jump to conclusions. There are many better teams to follow. You seem very narrow minded.go to some real games in the tri state and live a little, man.

Unless I missed it, nobody on this site has picked up on the Cornell Mann arrest for DUI…just saw it on espn.com. Will be interesting to see if he ever makes it to Ames to start the pipeline from Michigan. Not sure what, if any impact that could have on Gibson but interesting nonetheless.

Some of you who hide behind a fake name says some of the stupidist you know i have ever heard. If ud basketball is dead, why are they drawing more than Xavier and ranked 27th nationally last year? Not bad when the arena only seats less than 14,000, and if it was a dying city why does the ncaa keep hosting games there and for that matter why are the dragons about to set a record for most sellouts in any sport? The people saying dumb crap probably have never been to a game. I hope the kid does come here and by the way, though its early espn gave out grades for all the new coaching hires and UD got an A and suprisingly Georgia Tech received a D for hiring Brian Gregory who is having a terrible time trying to keep his recriuts in Atlanta. My prediction he’ll be gone in two years at Ga Tech, should’ve stayed here.

Dayton is a basketball town.We don’t share our affection with a baseball or football team.Any BB player that choses Dayton will be will be news year arround and have a loyal fan base forever,If Percy choses UD the entire city will embrace him. That will not happen elsewhere..

If bloggers like spoon gave up their obsession with posting maybe no one would see how stupid and downright moronic the fan base of Dayton truly is.Shut up and we would appear more normal as a school and a city.

Dayton and UD basketball are dying regardless of what an idiot says.Jobs are gone.Housing does not sell.UDs basketball program is busted. They finished in the basement and have a track record that is embarrassing.Bad coaches, bad players, obnoxious stupid fans.

Dayton was a once proud city but the recession has hit Dayton harder than any other city. I blame the state of Ohio for allowing Dayton to die. You can’t blame companies like NCR for moving to Atlanta. Now, Dayton is just a bunch of empty buildings with a few crack dealers hanging out. It really is sad.

Hey dipsticks, numbers dont lie,12,500 average fans for an above average team says a lot. continous ncaa games at the arena[ by the way the most held by any city in the ncaa history mind you] housing is down everywhere and did you see the article about the growth of people moving downtown, oh by the way you probably didnt because you cant read anything but sports. I would like to say we are a rebounding city that will survive as will the University of Daytons basketball program!

Percy, UD and it’s fans would welcome you here.If you thought that BG was a good coach, you would really welcome the new coaching staff. My guess is that you would fit in nicely and see significant playing time as a freshman. We’d love to have you make a name for yourself here.

I might have to swing by Percy’s house or meet him at Dunkin Donuts to let him know not to read these comments. It has me concerned that it could sway him away. I guess I’ll throw Boston Creme to the wind and take one for the team here.

He’s down to UD, Illinois, and Virginia but my sources (never wrong yet) say he will be re-committing to UD after his visit. In addition it’s all but official that UD will be getting commits in the next week or two from Vee Sanford, Isaiah Philmore, and Alex Gavrilovic
