French prospect commits to Dayton
Alexandre Gavrilovic, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward from IMG Academy who played on the French U-20 national team last summer, committed to Dayton today, a source told the Dayton Daily News.
Gavrilovic is primarily a power forward but is a capable shooter on the perimeter. He originally signed with Providence in 2010 but was released from his letter-of-intent because of problems with his French academic transcript converting to American credits.
He was recruited this spring by UD, Towson, Texas Tech and SMU. He will have four years of eligibility.
Gavrilovic is the first recruit in the Archie Miller era at UD.

He has better offensive post moves already than any other Flyer big I can think of in recent years. Looks like a nice find.

Way to go coach, isnt it ironic we lose Henton to Providence and they lose Gavrilovic to Dayton. Now if we can get another point guard and possibly Gibson ,it will be a banner recruiting class for this late in the year.

At this point I’m happy to see UD sign any recruit. Hopefully, he’ll live up to his press clippings.

@ NOPE - you can bet his court speed will improve through necessity and conditioning. When’s the last time UD had a big that could actually handle the ball that well, and who was patient and skilled around the basket? Who also has a 3-stroke akin to Luke F.? Seriously? You’re not impressed? Not even a little? Oh, and can make free throws? With his hesitation moves and release around the hoop, he has the potential to get other bigs in foul trouble, and make them pay at the line. AND, cause mismatch problems being able to pull out and knock down 3’s consistently. Pair that with Josh Benson and CJ and you have some serious mismatch problems. You WILL see CJ driving the ball and being aggressive again this year—healed from the groin pull, and most importantly, GIVEN HIS MAN PARTS back by the new coach. BG castrated CJ last year. Only room for optimism here!!

Nope to nope! I am sure all of the other schools are offering him full rides because he is slow up and down the court. Nope, are you a scout for somone? Just wondering. Or are you an X fan? Aha!

U have to be kidding me making all this hoopla about a regular BB Player. Slow, moves like Bill Uhl Jr. Won’t be a impact player until he is 24 his senior year. I would not get so excited about this player or the team itself. They lost 2 Gregory recruits that would have been a instant impact the very first game. Look forward to concessions stands doing double the business this year as fans will discuss their disgust over a hot dog and coke…

This is a huge signing for us. I am glad that Texas Tech did not offer him a schollie. Great job by Archie to get a guy that slipped thru the cracks. Gar could have played at a big school. Go Flyers

i’m happy we have finally landed a recruit, and a big at that. Espn only gives this kid a rating of 40 out of 100 so i would jump for joy, we need to keep on rolling and bring in Gibson. If we can pull this PG Gibbs from maryland that just decommited and Gibson that would be huge. Go Flyers all you haters go away

With this signing, Kav’s a$$ should be firmly planted at the end of the bench. Why did we give Kaven-stiff a scholarship???

A big guy that is right handed and shoots with his left. He can shoot free throws, dunk and will be a big presence in the inside. He will fit in nicely with the players around him. Alexandre welcome aboard, we are happy to have you as a Dayton Flyer! Congratulations Coach, on your first.. of many recruits at UD! Can’t wait for the season to start. GO UD!!!

Doug, relative to your other article on this guy where do you get him needing summer classes at UD to get through the clearinghouse? Keep throwing crap out there, the lemmings eat it up.

I hope he works out, but if this is his highlight reel …seems to be another slow -footed big man who puts the ball on the floor too much…honestly reminds me of Cavanaugh in high school. But I know it’s tough this late in the year to find a jewel…let’s hope he grows under the new coach …something that never happened with Gregory …maybe even Cavanaugh will improve…but he is a big body, and we need that

recruits must know people blog negative comments, so at the risk of hurting recruiting I must say my opinion. This guy is slow, with no jumping abliity, a weird 3 ball ( his feet are not right) the slow left handed move, look at his feet 2 inches of the ground. That baby is blocked in the A-10.

NOPE: Originally, I agreed with you after looking at the video. However, my one complaint with BG was that he recruited the same kind of player all the time. Athletic and slashers. So my hope is that this guy can be one of those big bodies who may not score a ton, but can grab 10-13 rebounds on most nights and get his baskets on putbacks and FTs. It’s worth the risk.

Since he’s French, he should be used to losing. Perfect fit for him at UD! Enjoy the whine at UDump Arena, Alexandre.
