Six UD teams recognized by NCAA for academic success
Six University of Dayton athletic teams were recognized today for their success in the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate, which measures athletes’ retention and progress toward a degree.
Football, men’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s basketball, women’s golf and women’s rowing were on the list of teams the NCAA honored today for being in the top 10 percent of their sports in the APR numbers. There were 909 teams throughout the NCAA that received recognition.
In the APR format, each athlete can earn two points for his or her team, one for staying in school and one for remaining academically eligible. The points are totaled for the athletes on any team and divided by the total the team could have earned. The minimum APR to avoid penalty is 925 (92.5 percent of the possible point total).
More information on the APR format, which began in 2005, can be found here.
The full APR report will be released on May 24.
