Georgetown transfer commits to Dayton on visit

Vee Sanford, a 6-foot-3 guard who is transferring from Georgetown University, said he committed to play for the University of Dayton while on a visit to the school tonight.

Sanford, a Lexington, Ky., native, said the UD campus reminded him of his hometown.

“It was a nice feeling being there,” Sanford said. “It really seemed comfortable, it’s a nice city.”

Sanford will sit out next season due to transfer rules and have two seasons of eligibility remaining, he said.

Sanford was still in Dayton on Wednesday night when he made his commitment. He also spent Tuesday at the school.

Way to go Archie, i must say i really like this signing even though we have to wait a year. That just gives him plenty of time to adjust to Archie style. Now lets keep rolling GO UD

Well, well. Hats off to Archie and staff. 2 4 2! This coaching staff is amazing. They have less than two months on the job and have landed two outstanding recruits. Welcome Big A and Vee! We are glad that you will be here.

Just remember where u heard it. Flyers r going to win an NCAA game this coming year. I believe AM can get us to the Sweet 16. The problem is gone ,Brian Gregory. I got to know him a little bit when he recruited Mr. Payne from powerhouse Jefferson Twp. High School. Tom Archdeacon u need to apologize to Coach Staton and his tremendous son Jewan.

al b…..u must be kidding! granted (2) reasonable signings, albeit malcontent V who rode back end of bench @ gtown…to say sweet 16 (??)…even ncaa bid w/any point or inside presence is sheer lunacy! as a realist i’m looking @ 1-2 yrs of rebuilding, letting am’s system take hold…..

He only averaged 1 point per game. Not good.

We beat out Florida Intl for his services. If he was a star player, a big school would have selected him.

Remeber these two players are just part of the recipe. There is a ton of talent waiting to develop in AM’s new style. I think with the European trip to get the team in sync, this is a 20+ win team. Maybe they don’t win the A10 or go to NCAA’s but they’ll be in consideration due to hard play by players loving their coach. GO UD

The Hoya fans can’t understand why Vee didn’t get more minutes and are sorry to see him go.I think the Archmeister is doing just fine !

The kid was all state in KY and an honor roll student. The current Georgetown’s coach isn’t close to having his father’s talent and has been getting grilled by the DC media for his underachieving teams. This is a good signing and I believe this guy has better upside than any current Flyer except one. And can we stop the Staton comments, UD is better off without him and BG. Win/Win for all.

It’s good to see that UD is signing some players. But to jump overboard with excitement (like old Fifties Fan) before these guys have even played one minute, is a bit much. I can recall how some people also over reacted when other players, who eventually spent most of their time on the bench, were recruited. I hope these guys do prove out, but it’s too early to act like UD just signed Michael Jordan.

Georgetown’s top three scorers last year were guards, so I’m guessing this was a classic case of being stuck behind a number of talented players. It’s a small sample size, and I’m only going off of what I see on paper, but Vee appears promising — looks like he can definitely shoot the ball (52% FG, 60% 3’s, 100% FT). With Spearman gone and Williams going into his senior year it’s a great fit to have a veteran 2-guard in waiting. Great signing…Welcome to UD, Vee!

Nagel writing a UD basketball story!! Hope he’s filling in for UD flack Doug Harris and hasn’t gone over to the dark side covering UD and it obnoxious fans still living in the past “back in the day when we won the NIT”

Hey Bubba: FYI: Number 1. I am not old. 2. I am a UD fan for a long time. I was bragging on the coaching staff. Both recruits were rated 3 stars by Rivals.com, out of high school. It is amazing, considering the loss of JS & BS, that they were able to be in the mix for this caliber of players at this late date. All in less than 2 months on the job. I do not believe I said anything more. Who were the players that we got excited about that spent most of their time on the bench?

Vee Sanford is going to lead us to the NCAA tournament just like how he led Georgetown to the national championship. Go Flyers!

Hey Delusional Flyer, put down the pipe, dude. Vee averaged 1 point per game for a middle of the pack Big East school. If Vee was so good, he’d still be at Georgetown.

Hope UD also gets a shot at MoMo(LaMont) Jones who was coached by Archie at UA. Given a chance, Jones will take UD back to the 50’s and 60’s. He’s tough, slick and team oriented like Lane, Riazzi and the Bockhorns. Bill Brennan Tucson , AZ

Vee’s last game at Georgetown was a loss to VCU. Vee played 6 minutes, no points, no assists, no rebounds. 6 minutes of bball and nothing to show for it.

Vee might not have done anything at Georgetown, but he practiced against some of the top players in the country. Once he starts playing against weak competition in the A-10, Vee will dominate.

Huge UD fan! Everyone slow down, the flyers have a long way to go. And for Staton he sucked. Prime example of why you don’t by into those top rated players in magazines. 90% of those players are a joke. After the first five forget about all the others.
