Spearman going to junior college
Former Dayton shooting guard Brandon Spearman announced on his Twitter account that he’ll attend Indian Hills Community College in Iowa.
The 6-foot-3 Chicago native appeared in all 36 games for the Flyers last season, averaging 2.5 points while playing 10.9 minutes per game. He shot 41.2 percent on 3-pointers but just 30.8 percent overall.
Juwan Staten, Spearman’s roommate at UD, also left the team after the season, transferring to Penn State.

I’m really surprised by this. Why wouldn’t he just declare himself eligible for the NBA draft. Staten too. What are they waiting for?

I love it almost as much as the Penn State coach leaving to coach Navy. Juwan and Brandon got some bad advice.

Hey, I’m just an old Flyer from Cleveland who reads the DDN on line to keep up with UD sports. I hear that after the Penn State coach took the Navy job yesterday that Juwinie Baby, err Billie Staten started shopping his kid again. I was told he got a call from Florida International and responded, “My kid ain’t playin basketball for no da*n airport.” Tell me it ain’t true !!

Actually Perry, Doug is partially correct - as of the end of spring he would have been ineligible but had a very small chance to bring up grades enough during the summer to regain eligibility

Jim Calhoun, UCONN coach, who this week said UD and xavier would be the best schools to join the big east should the football and basketball schools split up or the idiots who say UD is no good on on a free board for a Dayton Ohio newspaper???

Doug is exactly correct. This had nothing to do with his ability as a BB player…Again, it wasn’t a guarantee he would not be able to play at UD next year had he stayed, as he had time to make it up, but with the transfer, etc. it did not help him.

JC over UD, interesting choice. I believe he made a bad choice to leave UD and hopefully it wasn’t because of his roommate. But life is a maturing process and I hope it works for him

Wow! Stanton’s Dad really gave him good advice. Now he is without a place to go. I guess maybe a JC or UNLV. Surprised Archie couldn’t talk him into staying at UD, oops, maybe he didn’t want him and his helicopter father. Guess what? He had no loyalty to his high school or college yet his dad complains about the “poor” situation his son is now in. What goes around comes around so pay the piper and realize the world revolves around the sun not your son.

Just goes to show that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Spearman to a junior college? Obviously he’s not as good as he thinks he is or he doesn’t have the grades. As for Staten, well, sometimes you shouldn’t let your family make a decision for you….unfortunately a lot of kids are driven by their money hungry parents. Good luck to both but I think that UD will end up getting the better end of both of these deals.

Staten’s Dad is a Idiot. He was trying to say a immature kid should have his way on a college basketball team. If he was a senior instead of a brat Freshman he might of had more leadway. glad the kid’s gone hes only about himself not about team!

Dayton is an overpriced junior college. Spearman, you’re doing the smart thing. Get off the sinking ship called the USS Cryer! Save your NBA career. No Dayton player has been drafted by the NBA in 20+ years.
