Philmore chooses Xavier over Dayton

Towson transfer Isaiah Philmore has accepted a scholarship to Xavier, picking the Musketeers over Dayton, according to his former AAU coach.

The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Philmore, who also visited Missouri, was eighth in scoring in the Colonial Athletic Association as a sophomore last year with a 15.3 average and also pulled down seven rebounds per game.

“The success of the program was really intriguing for him,” said Duane Coverdale, Philmore’s former AAU coach who accompanied the player on his visits. “All the visits were very good, but Xavier has a lot to offer with the success of the program, being a consistent NCAA tournament qualifier and even going deep into it.”

Barring any unforeseen developments, recruiting for Dayton in the 2011 class has concluded. The Flyers signed 6-9 French forward Alexandre Gavrilovic and 6-4 Georgetown transfer Vee Sanford.

I’ll just say this, Chris R’s Dayton Flyer site has a bunch a RETARDS an Non Dayton Flyer fans that dissed BOTh Philmore & Gibson recruits, first started off on Gibson, for the last 2 weeks all it was how Dunkin Donuts cant get it done and jokes about it, then on Philmore, it was a paid blogger had asked to be a “friend” on a social network of Philmores page, and foe a solid 2 weeks was how thats Recruit Violation, and you know Recruits do look at the Blogs to decide on if its right or not, so for you RETARDS on UD Pride, Get A Life, You Just Caused Us Two Good Prospects…Shame on you Chris R, you should moderate those trolls off the board..what wrong with you guys, if you cant be a True UD basketball fans, then dont let the door hit you where the good lord split you!!

I typoed that crap out that, but Im extremely upset with UD Pride on how they did that on Gibson and Philmore, in my opinion, it sure could of been a factor on their decisions.

Hey William, why don’t you stop using the word ”retard” the way you do ! It certainly does not make you sound like you have any formal education or any compassion for others. Just something to think about.

I cant say I am unhappy with his choice. Willam does make a good point(even w/ all the typos) that the “Flyer Faithful” have been anything but faithful this off season. You people amaze me. You dogged the Archie hire before giving him half a chance. And before anyone says anything, dont start pointing out the recruiting. UD is NOT the gold standard of mid-major basketball in the midwest. UD had only what? 1 winning season in the A-10 under BG?? With stats like that you should not expect to get great recruits to begin with. BG didnt prepare players for the next level, and his offense looked like a hockey line change. You have 8 yrs of mediocre basketball to overcome so dont put it on Archie. He is a good coach who learned from some of the best, and if you would shut up and give him a chance you might learn someting.

UDump loses out again

Once again a player of some talent chooses Xavier over Dayton — a superior educational institution with an equally superior basketball program. A wise young man indeed to recognize the mediocrity of everything Dayton attempts to offer.

Since when is X a better school academically? Seriously?

Jesuit schools always have high academic standards. What makes you think UD is superior?

He chose the program not the coach. Mack went deep with Crawford and was lucky to win against UD last year last second trey by Crawford, 25 point beat down at arena, then technical in A10 tourney, all with Crawford. Without Crawford they were one and done in both A10 and NCAA.

Felix: you do realize the UD is private, Catholic…right? Ranked as a top tier national research institution…is X?

It looks to me like Archie is asleep at the wheel. Can’t get recruits and can’t get Assistant COaches. Maybe the college basketball community knows something Tim Wabler doesn’t.

This is a question to a hypothetical scenario. Staten seems not to be bound for Penn St. If Miller were to let him return then 1) could he and if so 2) would be be able to play immediately? Remember..just a question

It is funny as hell to watch these mid-majors bash one another. If the kid was any good, a big school would have signed him. Towson State won 4 games. LOL

UD has not been able to recruit as good as players that are leaving. There two main recruits lost have not come close to being replaced. UD basketball is destined for mediocrity the next few years. You can hype it all you want but it is evident the Towson transfer saw it coming and didn’t want to be a part of it. X has been to the NCAA 10 of the last 11 years and to the sweet sixteen and elite 8 several times. UD has been to the NIT(not important tournament) nuff said. The Fordham/UD games at least will be close and exciting.

Give me a break with this “UD is a national research institution”. That is crap. UDRI is well respected but is funded by outside corporations and employs researchers from outside of UD academia….. tons by the Air Force. How many Nobel Prize winners does UD have on faculty? How about NONE. So don’t give me this “National Research Institution” crap. UDRI is a fine component of the UD resume but it doesn’t have a damn thing to do with the average “Joe or Jill” on campus.

UD was tied for 99th on US News and World Reports national universities list, just ahead of Nebraska, Kansas, and Florida State. Xavier was 3rd…on the regional (midwest) list.

the question that no one asks is why did this kid go to Towson in the first place? Sorry but being the leading scorer on a team that didn’t win a conference game does not make this kid an automatic blue chip recruit. X does have more natonal presence as basketball program but BG is gone and there is hope for UD. I agree that three years from now UD will be looking for another coach because Miller’s success will have the larger programs calling. BTW, UD fans need to tone it down a notch with the X bashing. Both are excellent Catholic universities with successful academic and sports programs. UD and X are very similar so emrace the similarities.

Let’s be fair. I’m sure XU is a fine school, but there are several differences. Dayton is classified as a major research university and has a large research institute, engineering school, and law school. UD’s annual budget is in excess of $300 million; Xavier is somewhere above $100 million. These are significant differentiators. Both schools have a place but serve different needs.

As a Xavier fan I was surprised that this guy picked X considering the competition. He will have some difficulty getting minutes where at Dayton he would have more of a problem with too many minutes. I also do not buy the winning reason. I mean who is going to say they don’t care, losing is just fine as long as… If I am a Dayton fan, I now worry about Archie. Yes he has recognition due to his brother but he still has not coached one minute of D1 ball. Sean Miller was not all that great his first two years. I think the system and commitment at X were as much a factor with Miller evidenced by the fact that there has not been any drop off since he left.

“Give me a break with this “UD is a national research institution”. That is crap. UDRI is well respected but is funded by outside corporations and employs researchers from outside of UD academia….. tons by the Air Force.” Felix: outside funding at a certain level is the DEFINITION of National Research University. Don’t yell at me go complain to U.S. News. In 2007 UD was ranked 44th among private schools in outside research dollars. Just below Notre Dame and above Northwestern.

Yes, money always equals happiness. Everyone knows that! I bet you went to O$U, but are too embarrassed to admit it. You sound like a classic O$U douche. Tuck your t-shirt into your acid washed jeans and go hit the nearest Golden Corral buffet.
