Dayton’s Miller getting national press
For the job he’s done so far in his first year as coach at Dayton, Archie Miller seems to get an article in some national media outlet nearly every week.
Here’s a story from the CBS-TV New York website that appeared today.
The Flyers, incidentally, are getting votes in both national polls this week. They have the 35th-most votes in the AP Top 25 and 38th-most in the USA Today coaches ratings.

There is no question UD picked the right guy to coach this team. I dont just say that because they beat X. For the first time in a very long time this team actually looks like a TEAM.

He’ll be moving up soon if he keeps this up. UD doesn’t have the money nor would they want to raise tickets prices to pay this guy what he would get at a big school.

The downside is that Dayton is and always will be a stepping stone for young coaches. This coach will be taken after 2 seasons if he keeps at this pace, unfortunate.

Coach Miller deserves all the compliments that he is getting. What this season’s team has accomplished is truly remarkable. I agree with xugrad96 that for the first time in years, they look and play like a TEAM. I also believe that they deserve a higher ranking than what they are currently getting in the polls. Problem is that most of those who vote in the polls vote for the name of the school more than the performance. I hope the team doesn’t stumble at St. Joe, because the Hawks are a good team, especially at home. Go Flyers!

I hate the polls. When the big name schools lose a game or even a couple of games, they still receive plenty of votes and hardly fall in the poll because those voting vote for the name and reputation and don’t really pay attention to what happened on the court. But, when a team like Dayton, or any A-10 team, loses a game, no one votes for them anymore. The voting, just like the NCAA committee who picks the teams for the tournament are all biased toward the big schools and conferences. It’s really a shame!

I have to agree that Archie isn’t destined to remain at UD for very long. I see 3 or 4 seasons at most. That’s really too bad, but it’s what happens when you hire an up and coming young coach. As much credit as he deserves for what the program has accomplished thus far, that’s why perhaps he wasn’t the right person for this job. Just maybe, he’ll surprise us and put loyalty first as Don Donoher did. I can dream can’t I?

I think you’re all getting a little too jazzed a little too quickly. Do you honestly believe UD is one of the top 25 teams in the country? No way. Def better than last year, but I was at the Lasalle game last week and was not impressed. Better than last year, but a win over a now-proven-to-suck Xavier team doesn’t prove much. If they played UC they would get CRUSHED.

Archie might just surprise all of us and stick around for awhile. Hopefully he will have a sense of loyalty. Yes we can dream… The FLYERS have to play with the same intensity as they did with XU and stay healthy, if they can do that we should be in the big dance.

sec 312 where are you? I always liked to read what you had to say and we haven’t seen you say anything for awhile. I hope you’re only on vacation and will be back with us before too long. In the meantime I’ll just dream with Bubba and Biggest Fan about AM falling in love with UD and deciding that he wants to hang around for a long time.

The downside is that XAVIER and Wright State are and always will be stepping stones for young coaches.

You crybabies need to quit whining about the “name schools”. UD is well known nationally and gets the respect they deserve. They’re ranked 49th by Sagarin and lost by 30 at home to a bad team. I think Archie Miller’s doing great and if the team doesn’t get worn down they may make the NCAA tournament. But let’s not get carried away. Enjoy the success they’re having.

Totally agree with Bubba….if Coach Miller is the real deal, then he is probably gone in 3 to 4 years. Couldn’t blame him if he does leave for the next assignment. The key will be if UD does what XU has done consistently for years…plan for a really good coach’s departure and have a line on a really good replacement. Can’t see why UD can’t do the same thing…it’s the way a Mid-Major Program survives and even thrives. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the ride. Go Flyers!

The weave offense hasnt started well in the ACC. BG is gonna really need to coach up his defense if they can’t score 50 against a team like Miami.
