Hold the phone on vouchers …

Ohio House Speaker Jon Husted told me Tuesday that he is unhappy with the restrictions on vouchers and will seek to amend the law so many more students will eligible to receive them, perhaps including those already attending private schools, charter schools, home schools or in any DISTRICT that is rated in “academic emergency.” This is a big change. Update: Here is my story from Wednesday’s DDN about Husted and vouchers.

Now that’s refreshing leadership (Husted). While he is at it, maybe we should start including students in all districts - regardless of what a district is rated. A lot of students in districts rated “excellent” need some choices as well - for example gifted students who receive superficial services like one day a week pull out programs. I am all for home schooling families having their educational expenses paid, as well. It is time to focus the money on education and not payrolls
