Percy Mack a finalist in Columbia, S.C.

Percy Mack
The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C., is reporting the Dayton school Superintendent Percy Mack is one of three finalists to become superintendent there.
Mack was a finalist for superintendent in Mobile, Ala., in September but the board ultimately picked a different candidate. At the time, Mack said he was interested in the job because it was a large urban district close to his native state of Georgia. But he has consistently said since that time that he was not looking for another job.

Dr. Percy Mack deserves some relief from the small-minded negative people in this city; I’ve seen his caring concern for the students and his intelligent thoughtful and passion work on behalf of the students and this entire area. No matter what he does, the complainers just complain louder instead of working for the students like he does. He’s wasting his time trying to help an area which only wants to whine and complain. I don’t blame him for leaving.

PAM, give me a break! It is the parents job to get their kids to want to go to school. It is called parenting and it starts the day the child is born with good parenting skills and high expectations.

Once again, the residents in the city of Dayton show their ignorance. Dr. Mack cares very much about the students in DPS; however, you wouldn’t know that because you do not work with him. It is you ignorant parents and role models that send your messed up kids to the Dayton Schools that is pulling the district as well as the entire city down. If you need any more evidence of what I speak, check out the ignorant comment about Mack getting rid of charter schools. This city is going to implode because of the sheer amount of stupid, ignorant folks living off the dole and then pointing fingers in all the wrong places. As for Dr. Mack getting a new job, good for him. Best of luck, Dr. Mack, you will be missed by many!

No matter who is Superintendent in Dayton, everybody seems to hate them. They have an extremely difficult task but everybody demands perfection. Pam, you are being perfectly silly to complain that Mack has not gotten rid of charter schools. He has no such authority. Parents are free to choose where their children are educated.

Hooray - maybe someday the Dayton Board of Ed will hire someone who really cares about the students and will get them to want to come to school. Mack certainly hasb’t been successful at that or getting rid ofthe “charter schools” that are supposed to be so geart! Until that happens, too bad for everyone!!!!!

Choosing a new superintendent? As a Florida certified teacher, I suggest you first take a look at what happened here in this school district (no offense to anyone involved in the Ohio county matter), as this school district, too, recently hired a new superintendent. It’s so funny I created a parody blog about it. And, the GRADEBOOK, an education blog of the St Petersburg Times in Florida, recently featured my new parody blog here: http://blogs.tampabay.com/schools/2008/04/something-to-la.html Enjoy!

Why, Scott, must you tease us with the notion that Percy might be going somewhere? My heart skipped a beat when I saw the posting headline. Again, we see Dr. Mack playing both sides of the street here, telling you that he is not looking for another job but somehow becoming a finalist for a job in South Carolina. A friend told me that when she was let go last spring, the district mentioned there were lots of jobs in SC and that the district would do everything in their power to help the laid off teachers get a position there (they were actually offering signing bonuses). Maybe Percy finds the grass greener there, let’s hope!

I can’t blame someone for trying to get ahead in the world, but it really hurts his credibility in dealing with local issues when he appears to be trying to leave the area.
