Driver ejected, lands on house

JAMESTOWN — When Joan Alfonso first saw the wreckage in her front yard she couldn’t imagine how anyone could have lived.

“That truck, it was an F-150, it was smashed,” said the resident of a split-level home on U.S. 35 east of Jamestown. “I don’t know how they survived.”

Alfonso was awakened about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, when a pickup truck driven by Brent Brown, 26, of Jamestown, went off the road, through several trees and after leaving a trail of debris came to rest on its top in her front yard.

Brown, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was ejected and flew more than 50 feet before he landed on Alfonso’s roof. A passenger Preston Boggs, 24, of Jamestown, was inside the cab of the overturned truck.

It wasn’t the crash that woke Alfonso, but the commotion afterwards. ” “I just heard a bunch of noise,” she said. ‘They said ma’am, don’t call 911, we just went off the road. We’re leaving.’ They didn’t know he was up there.”

Police are still unsure if another car was involved, but they do believe Brown was traveling well over the posted 55 mile per hour speed limit when he lost control, said Ohio Highway Patrol Lieutenant Marty Fellure of the Xenia post. “It’s a first in my career,” he said of the circumstances of the crash.

Ohio State Highway Patrol officer investigates the crash site Monday, June 29.

Medics didn’t find Brown right away. A deputy searching the area with a flashlight noticed a shoe up on the Alfonso’s roof, said Bob Olwin, Silvercreek Twp. fire chief. A ladder truck had to be brought in to get Brown down. “I’ve been doing this 22 years and I never seen anything like it,” Olwin said.

He was taken by CareFlight medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital where he remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit. Boggs, the passenger in the truck, was treated and released over the weekend.

Troopers are trying to determine exactly how fast the car was traveling when Brown lost control. Neither man was wearing a seat belt, and Lt. Fellure said if they had, their injuries would have likely been less serious. “Anytime you are involved in a wreck a safety belt will minimize injuries,” Fellure said.

Alfonso said the intersection of Old U.S. 35 and Ohio 734 has been the site of many accidents, but wrecks have fallen off since the four-lane highway was completed. She is left with a hole in their roof, destroyed shrubs and trees and an uneasy feeling. “I told my husband, after this, it’s time to move,” she said. “I hope they have insurance.”

I’m sure you never did anything stupid in your life George, if only we could all be just like you. Please try to remember that this young man, although he did something very very dumb, has parents and a sister who loves him and really doesn’t want to hear about their son & brother being “eliminated from the gene pool”. I hope he lives to regret what he did, appreciates his life, and takes care of himself after this.

From what I’ve heard, and I know an officer or two that was on the scene, alcohol was not a factor. You know what they say when you assume things. If a tragedy like this happened to your family you wouldn’t appreciate these kinds of comments. Pretty much everyone has done something they shouldn’t have, doesn’t mean they deserve to be insulted like this.

To whomever can’t be kind and has to be nasty, please keep your comments to yourself. Brent has a wonderful family and we all have made mistakes. He’s a fighter to survive so try and be compassionate. NONE of us, including yourself, walk on water and what goes around—comes around. So you could make a “mistake”yourself. Be careful…..

Really? This was a car accident, if speed was a factor let’s all not put ourselves on a pedestal because we have all exceeded the speed limit. I truly hope that none of you who think you are free from error have to fight like he is fighting. Actually, I almost hope that you do, it’s called Karma and you all need a dose of it. My prayers are with you Brent, and your family, keep up the good fight!

My comment is for George Walters. Maybe you should find something better to do to entertain yourself and secondly when you make comments about a person who might not make it and could leave children behind..without knowing all the facts…you only show your intelligence…or should I say…lack of.

My comment is for Mr Walters. Maybe you should come over to the ICU at Miami Valley and make your stupid comments. They could arrange for some treatment for you as well.

I have heard that the accident is still under investigation and that Brent Brown might not have been the driver. Once again we have the Dayton Daily News publishing information that is not accurate. Why am I not surprised!

To all of you who are making rude, redneck comments about these guys. Everyone has made stupid mistakes in their life so lets not make yourself out to be the “king of no error” Before you make comments you should really know all the facts before making assumptions. Brent is truly a fighter and is fighting for his children!! His family has enough to worry about then to hear about these rude unnecessary comments being made. What if this was your child or grandchild I’m sure you would be upset reading these as well. Please drop the rude comments!!!! Please keep Brent and the whole Brown family in your thoughts and prayers, he will pull through this you will see!!!

I’m not going to defend the comments above but if this was a story from Canada? and you did not know him? The gene pool comment is out line but the others? Mr Brown hopefully gets to tell these jokes himself while telling kids why you should wear a seat belt. IF YOU WANT TO BE MAD AT SOMEONE… Who told Mrs Alfonso not to call 911? She said,”They said ma’am, don’t call 911, we just went off the road. We’re leaving.” Who is she talking about? Why would anyone say “Don’t call 911” Your buddy’s truck is smashed and you can’t find him but you say, “Don’t call 911” and evidently leave the scene? If you know this young man you need to be asking this question? “WHO SAID don’t call 911”? How long did he lay up there before Mrs Alfonso woke up and called 911? Mrs Alfonso said she was not woke up by the accident but rather by the commotion. HOW LONG DID HE LAY THERE while nobody called 911? Good Luck Mr Brown, may God give you strength.

This is for the people who made the comments such as “briar” “redneck” “needs to be out the gene pool”. Yeah, those are definitely ‘very intelligent’ comments. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to do that…makes our family feel much better! It’s morons like you who are so quick to judge other people. Brent is my nephew and I am proud of it. He is a wonderful young man and doesn’t deserve those insults. He is lying in ICU fighting for his life right now. You want to talk about redneck and briar? YOU are the perfect example of the idiots in the world, especially when you don’t know what you are talking about and not intelligent enough to even make an appropriate comment. I feel sorry for people like you. Brent has family & friends who love him and we are all praying for him. I will also say a prayer for you.

I will answer….. Preston Boggs was the person who said do not call 911. He is obviously no friend and has no heart and only cares about himself.

Thank you to all of you that had nice words to say! Thank you for your thoughts and prayers! As to all of you who have nasty things to say…. you have no business saying anything rude. You are obviously not perfect by any means! For one, you do not even know how the TRUE facts! Secondly, Brent has dear family and friends who loves him and children who absolutely adore him! He is a fighter and will pull through this! everyone keep Brent and the Brown family in your prayers!

First of all I want to say that I love Brent and his family dearly! They are dealing with a horrible tragedy right now and don’t need ignorant people making comments when they don’t know what they are talking about! This was a horrible accident, which in fact is still under investigation! To all of you running your mouth please use common sense and think before you speak!! None of us are perfect!! Brent is a fighter and he will make it through this!! I love you Brent, stay strong!!

Ok, so after reading all this, I am so hurt. Those individuals who made those nasty comments on here obvisouly have no heart and have never been in a tragic situation. If you, or a fmaily memeber, or god forbid your son or daughter were in Brent’s position right now, how would you feel reading these?? We are all so proud of Brent for staying so strong and fighting. As for those of you who want to make such RUDE and ABSURD comments, why don’t you grow some balls and walk your un-intelligent a*s up to the ICU and make these comments to his family?? Like PO’d said, i’m sure the hospital could arrange for you to get treatment as well.

It makes my stomach sick to read some of the comments posted on here. There is a man laying in ICU who is a father,a boyfriend,a brother, and a son fighting for his life as these horrific things are being said. Brent Brown has a heart of gold, and would give the shirt off his back to help ANYONE. To find out that we have such SICK individual’s who live in our small community who could do such a thing is tragic! This is a man’s life that could have been taken from his daughters! How cold hearted could you be. Let’s ask Preston how he would feel if he was taken from his daughter’s life. I have nothing but faith that the truth will come out. To the Brown family,, Brent & Cassi’s TRUE friends send nothing but prayers and love thru this difficult time.

I am disturbed by many aspects of people’s comments. For one, did this accident really warrent such harsh and mean comments from strangers? Strangers who do not even know Brent or his family? Why is everyone so quick to judge? Has everyone always driven the speed limit? People dropping comments about Brent being drunk-were you with Brent that night to know? Were you at the hospital to see his blood alcohol level? If not, once again, why are you assuming? Why are people dropping redneck comments? Why should Brent be eliminated from the gene pool? Is that really necessary? If this had happened to your mother, father, son, daughter, husband or wife, would they need eliminated as well? Is that really a fair comment to make about a human being? What has happened to our world? Are we not innocent until proven guilty? Are we no longer compassionate? As far as the last line of the news article, Mrs. Alfonso stated “I hope they have insurance.” Really? If your grand daughter Jasmine had wrecked, and she was lying in a hospital fighting for her life, is that what you would be worrying about? I think not! As far as who was driving, why is it assumed that Brent was driving? I am a nurse and actually work at MVH and have seen many traumas that come in. I can tell you that Brent’s injuries don’t correlate with him being inside of that truck at all-probably in the bed of the truck. I believe that the investigation will prove that as well. For all of you who want to speculate, why don’t you use good hard evidence as well! As far as who said to not call 911-well, that is obvious…I would say that was whoever was driving the truck because they didn’t want to get in trouble and with Brent unresponsive lying on a roof, I can tell you it wasn’t him! I know an EMT who was the first responder, and she is the one who called 911. She was there within less than a minute of the wreck-thank God she was or else who knows how long someone would have waited to call 911!

Ok everyone, I’ve seen it all now!! How can you people sit and type such crude, rude and hurtful lines about a man that is fighting for his life? For the ones that have made the awful comments: Do you all know Brent? If you don’t, then you need to shut your pie holes!!! Brent is one of the sweetest young men that I know of, besides he has a wonderful family (Cassi, his 2 little girls) and of course his Mother and other family members that have been worried to no end since this awful tragedy! If all you do is read the newspaper online everyday and make your rude comments, GET A LIFE!! And to the MRS. who owns the home that Brent landed on….SHAME ON YOU!!!! All you are worried about is your bushes, flowers and a hole in your roof??? OMG, what about Brent? Have you wondered how he is doing? Sounds like all you are worried about is him having insurance!! Get real lady. I’m sure you have children yourself, so how would you feel if this were one of your kids? I could go on and on and on and on…but I’ll end it here and just say a prayer for Brent & his family! Hang in there Brent!! God Bless you all.

I can’t believe the intelligence level of you A-holes who think it’s okay to make these comments. For those of us who have read and commented on this blog let us not forget that there is a man fighting for his life here. Let us all forget about the shrubs, roof and the dishonest so called friends. We are all a son, daugher, brother, sister, mother or father. So please put yourself in his family’s shoes. This isn’t our time to place judgement.

Well I don’t even know this family and I have so much hurt for them. I did go up to ICU at MVH on Saturday while my daughter talked to Brent’s girl friend who she did not even know. She was so eager for answers she hung to every word that was said. I can not believe that people would make jokes, laugh, wish bad on this family, or even care about the damage to the yard, house, and bushes. Right now all concern and prayers should be targeted at the Brown family. They need love and support from the community and people who claim to be thier friends. Who ever was driving will come out in the end but that does not even matter now what matters is Brent surviving so he can go home to his children and his family. Alcohol, maybe, but is that even important at this moment??? Less gossip and more support would sure be a nice thing for the Brown family to have right now, even if you are a stranger. I have family in OK and I have ask them to add Brent to the prayer chain. My brother in law is a pastor, he passed the word around to all at the church and so many prayers are being said. What is sad that people right around here care more about jokes, who was driving, alcohol, and who is to blame. Get a grip, your or your family is GOD, and from what I know GOD is the only perfect person so don’t judge others, only GOD can judge!!!
