Firefox gets spooky!

Want to dress up your Web browser? If you use Firefox as your browser of choice you can add themes to turn the basic functions into a decorated environment!

There are two Halloween themes to choose from.

Here’s a look at Tricks and Treats using one of them: firefox.jpg

Once you’ve installed the theme and restarted Firefox once, you’ll need to go to Tools > Add-Ons > choose your theme and then restart your browser again.

Enjoy!

Oh, and if you want to further decorate your computer, try these free Halloween computer wallpaper designs!

Ack! It’s a mouse! Or is it a ghost? Or a brain?

From MouseEnvy.com… I give you, a computer mouse shaped like a ghost!

ghostmouser.jpg Or a toxic brain! And for those living a pirate’s life, there’s the Swarovski crystal skull-and-crossbones pirate mouse! or if you’re not into crystal… a simple skull and bones mouse. They offer up other choices that aren’t quite as Halloween decorative, but are still fun nonethless and hey, a costume’s a costume! Even if it is for your computer desk!

Martha Stewart does Halloween

Crafts, that is. Surprised? Didn’t think so. But, I was a little surprised to see some new Michaels last night. The best of the bunch in my impression? (without buying any of it as of this moment - so no quality guarantees) The Cat and Moon Window Silhouette. It sticks to your window (even in pieces for those with multiple small window panes) and produces an eerie shadow. Although they also had a witch and a few other choices at the Beavercreek store. Could save the time of cutting your own silhouettes if you are so inclined.

Turning styrofoam into STONE!

I’m in the process of building a crypt for my cemetery scene. I came across the instructions in a Halloween magazine ( Click here for online instructions ). I realize it’s only September, but when you’re creating your own decorations, it’s a good idea to get started early. This not only gives plenty of time to get done, but you have room for error and shopping. If you mess up, you can start again and if you need to buy supplies you won’t be out of luck.

Starting with a large cardboard box and some styrofoam pieces I’ll paint them and add “R.I.P” lettering and a cross (all purchased at a crafts store). But how to get them to look realistic and not just gray? Make It Stone! paints. Made by Krylon in this case (and again sold at crafts stores - I got mine at Crafts 2000 in Springfield). When you spray them on they are textured like real stone and give the multi-shade appearance of it as well. I’ve already painted a few pieces and it looks really good so far. I also purchased a can of Krylon “Glowz” paint to make some of my decorations glow in the dark.

These paints could be used to turn ordinary styrofoam into tombstones as well if you’re building a cemetery.

BARGAIN ALERT! The instructions for the crypt call for a large styrofoam ball. At various crafts stores int eh valley a styrofoam ball of that size can run as high as $25! So I’m improvising. I’m going to buy a childrens plastic play ball (the kind you see at most stores - even the supermarket at times - in the large cages) and use it instead. $3 or $4 vs. $25 and it should look the same once I spray it with the stone paint!

I’ll add pictures of the crypt as I get more accomplished on it!

Happy Haunting!

Extreme Halloween decorating

Are you an extreme decorator when it comes to Halloween?

I’ll confess, I kind of am and I’m getting worse every year… (I also do a LOT of Christmas decorating).

This year, I fully intend to have a full cemetery staged in my yard complete with fencing and an arch entryway.

BARGAIN ALERT! Instead of buying a pre-lit, pre-decorated arch for anywhere from $30-$80 I plan to buy a cheap ($20 or less) white garden arch and paint it black and decorate it myself for much less.

I already have a fog machine (from last year’s decorating and party) like this one, from Target ($19.99) fogger.jpg

Fog machines make for fun and spooky atmosphere for Halloween decorating or partying.

But for those who are truly extreme… you can now have a haunted house… at your house. I give you….

hauntedhouse.jpg

The inflatable haunted house. For $178 at Wal-Mart you can delight and terrify trick-or-treaters or partygoers to your home. The haunted house includes sound and strobe lights.

Target has a similar inflatable haunted house entryway for $149.99.

How do you decorate for fall and Halloween?

ANSWERS: My favorite costume as a child was the year I was a clown. My mom made my costume from scratch.

Till next time.
