It’s official: Alter football team is 3-2

Delayed by last week’s windstorm and the ensuing power outages, the Ohio High School Athletics Association acknowledged Monday receiving the letter from Alter High School regarding forfeits from Weeks 1 and 2.

OHSAA Assistant Commissioner Debbie Moore said the forfeitures will be accepted and reflected in the official computer ratings, which also were delayed by a lack of power at the OHSAA offices last week. Those will be published later this week.

Alter defeated Fairmont (39-7) and Bellbrook (49-14) on the field before learning it had used a player in his ninth semester of high school, which is against OHSAA bylaws. The Knights self-reported the offense to the state association.

Fairmont’s record is 4-1 in Division I, Region 4 and Bellbrook is 4-1 in Division II, Region 8. Alter (3-2) competes in Division IV, Region 16.

I feel bad for the kid who still has to walk the halls of that school, knowing that he was the reason they had to forfeit!

The kid should not feel bad. It is all administrations fault for not completing their homework correctly before allowing the kid to play.

It’s totally the school’s fault. They totally F’d up on that and dropped the ball. The starting players and their families should be furious with the coaches and administration for letting this happen.

There will be a new Patron Saint of Administrative Paperwork forthcoming.

I agree, Joe. My kid (at a different school) was discovered to be ineligible on the day of equipment pick-up. The coach didn’t realize it and neither did we. The administration completely dropped the ball. We learned a harsh lesson that day! COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE!!

Kudos to the coach and AD staff for immediately notifying OHSAA, even after the contrary advice and pressure of the wacky lawyer.

Do you think Valley View would have self reported, or waited until the following spring? Oh wait, that already happened. I guess I answered my own question. Congrats to Alter on having the integrity to self report during the season. They are a good enough team that they should make the playoffs anyway.

Alter did the right thing. Valley View would had done what Alter did. Valley View’s state titles are tainted for using recruits. They never won or will win without bringing in outside players.

Does any school bring in more outside players than Alter? Boxter?
