Might want to think about 2010 Centerville reserve tickets

CENTERVILLE — Was talking today with Centerville High School football coach and athletic director Ron Ullery, and here’s an interesting note that came from the conversation.

Next season, Centerville’s home schedule, with Week 4 still to fill that could possibly be another home game, is Mason, Cleveland St. Ignatius, Springboro (playing Centerville for the first time), Northmont and Wayne.

That’s quite a home slate for Centerville, which has another major home game coming Friday, Sept. 11, against Moeller.

I stopped by the school to talk with Ullery about Moeller, in fact, and the interesting history between the teams for a story to print next week. Then we got talking about scheduling, and Ullery brought up the background in setting up the St. Ignatius series last spring.

With some holes to fill, Ullery sat down and made a list of 30 programs throughout the state he would like to play. He e-mailed each school laying out Centerville’s open dates and requesting a game.

He got one response, from St. Ignatius, and it turned into a home-and-home series.

Granted, the other teams might not have been available on those dates or just not interested, but the e-mail campaign underlines the difficulty that can come with creating a football schedule.

Centerville has sold out one game in that stadium’s history ….. the opening game against Moeller back 80 or 81. In fact, the opening kick was taken by Centerville and the receiver slipped and down the ball on the one-yard line. I seriously doubt they would sell out every game next year. Come on. Get real DDN.

By say what?

did i miss something? what stadium? what sell out? reserve tickets are the prime seats, not standing room only.

They need to move the middle school kids to the endzone opposite the band and open up their bleacher section to adults. For the most part those kids are there to visit with each other, not to watch the game.

Screw Centerville. Does the DDN even know other schools exist? DId Nagel di have to kiss Ullery’s butt before he was allowed in the building.

I know joe doesn’t have a clue as to what he’s talking about. The stadium opened in 79, against Princeton. And there have been many sellouts since then. If fannies in seats means a sellout, otherwise, I don’t know what constitues one. I’ve been to plenty of games where there was a full home side. it’s usually the visitors who don’t bring anyone. As for Wayne67, it must be terrible to realize that everything your team has ever done, Centerville did first. Wayne lives it’s entire season based on how they compare to the Elks. Instead of comparing it to whether you collect trophies.

What’s Wayne67 whining about? The DDN is running feature articles today on Wayne, Northmont and Miamisburg but he has to complain about Centerville getting some coverage in a blog spot. Some people get a little bit too carried away with sports rivalries.

The age old question….. What is ELK plural? Where did the “S” come from? Just curious!

I’d love to know who the other 29 programs are that were contacted. Not that I think those programs are ducking Centerville its just that i’d like to know the mindset of Ullery and what type of programs he would “like to play”.

well, Elks is actually an acceptable plural form of Elk, at least according to the Websters, and Oxford English dictionaries. And I’m sure that E83 would like to know who doesn’t want to play Centerville, but we have always played anyone, anywhere. Who in Dayton would play Centerville?
