What’s your dream prep FB matchup?
This just in from loyal Dayton Daily News subscriber and high school football fan “Dandy Don” Thyer:
“Piqua is my hometown. So, I would like to have your department do a mock game with Piqua’s Brandon Sain and Troy’s Ryan Brewer.”
Hey, Don, that’s a matchup thousands of fans would love to see.
Cincinnati is my hometown. And I would love to see my alma mater — The Elder Panthers — collide with Massillon Washington High School in a home-and-home matchup.
Two storied programs. Two great teams. Two fabulous venues (Paul Brown Tiger Stadium and Elder Stadium).
For now, I look forward to covering tonight’s Chaminade Julienne vs. Thurgood Marshall game at West Carrollton Junior High School.
Earl White’s Marshall thundering Cougars have four fleet tailbacks in Tavion Wright, Brandon Walker, Deonte Oliver and Quincy Surles. If they stay healthy, each could rush for 1,000 yards this season.
Thanks for checkin’ in with your “dream matchup.”

My EX, moved to Bridetown area,We not Catholic, but my Ex,sent them to Elder. My two were in sports, Track/CC and Youngest in FB and track. He was on Elders first State Team. So I would like to see Elder take on any Dayton School at THE PIT. Doesn’t matter who. Once at the PIT, they will see true Fan Support. Elder takes on any and All. Best in the USA or Ohio.Come on Down.By That_GUY

I know this is totally off subject, but I noticed you mentioned the 4 RBs at Marshall. You might want to check into how they just “ended up” there out of nowhere. It will shed some light on some of the things that have been plagueing the DPS system and how you probably won’t have anyone mention a DPS team in your “dream match-up” story. As soon as one gets to the brink of greatness, they tear the program apart. As was written a few weeks ago, the DPS is making up its own rules as it goes. Things are being handled in a very shady way. Nothing is ever shown to anyone “on paper”. When you ask a simple yes or no question, you get a round-about, speculative answer. Nothing is ever concrete. You will probably be shut down once you ask how do 3 future Div 1 caliber ball players just “end up” at Marshall. This is no way accusing the coaches at Marshall of recruiting. This is accusing the DPS of trying to tear down one program at the expense of another. Look into it Mr. Ludwig. I guarantee you will find a decent sized Pandora’s Box that “no one” wants opened. I think its time that the truth came to light. This has gone on too long.By Chick Ludwig

There’s no place like home, and my home is “The Purple Panther Pit” — Elder Stadium in Cincinnati. Where else are grills going at both ends of the horseshoe? Where else do you get a $6,000 winner in “split the pot?” It’s the best, finest and greatest atmosphere for high school football in America. I want to see the ‘72 Panthers (9-0-1) — with eight shutouts — take on ANYBODY, home or away. And that includes YOU, St. Thomas Aquinas from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Cheers, ChickBy B

yeah, because the number of grills is always the best gauge of high school football. I’d like to see the 83 Centerville team that was denied a place in the playoffs because Northmont decided to go in the tank against any team. Nobody ran against our defense and we beat the 2 closest teams in our league by a combined 70-0.By Caleb

I hate to tell you this but your ‘72 defense wouldn’t hold up against todays kids. They are just bigger, stronger, and faster today.By null

Ok Now, Let’s see if Mr.Habib, or Joe remember these things from their limited Dayton area football past. How good was your teams in 1973, or 1995….Sorry, I forgot you have limited High School Football Knowledge. Let me inlighten you a little. I would put up the 1973, or 1995 Stebbins High School football teams against any team Past or Present. 1973 (8-0-2) Anchored by the most Honored athlete in the Miami Valley in Ron Sorey at Quarterback, and the Speedy George Jenkins. The 73’ squad did have (2) ties on their record, only the Fairmont East game was a Fluke at the end, giving the Falcons the a 21-21 tie. This squad put up numbers of 40-50 point game against todays powerhouses of Wayne,Fairborn,Centerville, and Beavercreek. In the days of no playoff in Ohio Football these guys could have won a state title in several States. The 1995 (9-1) squad had only the “Infamous” Inadvertant Whistle Game Loss to defending state champions Versailles loosing 24-16 in the end. Riz Buckman of Stebbins intercepted an errant pass and Romped 55 yards for what would have been the tying score. The quick whistled official blew his whistle and called an “In The Grasp” rulling and after realizing his mistake held up his rulling but called a replay the down. By the way, Versailles won the state title again that season. I would like the staff of the Dayton Daily News to search the archives of Dayton area high schools best season. These two Indian Squads will match-up with any team they choose. A comment for your limited knowledge would be, Enjoy your team if they are doing well, but carefull with the jolts of Lame Commenting on things that obviously are past your thought. All area schools have celebrated seasons in any sport. Learn your history there young fellas. Go Indians!By Habib
