CJ-Alter moved to Northmont High School

Feeling the building enthusiasm for the season-ending football matchup between Alter and Chaminade Julienne (which we discussed earlier today) will be played at Northmont High School’s stadium on Friday, Oct. 30, CJ athletic director Michael Raiff said today.

Alter, the defending Division IV state champion, is 8-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state in D-IV. CJ, at 7-1, is ranked No. 6 in D-III. Both lead their region in computer points. Both also play 1-7 opponents this Friday.

Both are members of the Greater Catholic League North Division, in which Alter is 5-0 and CJ is 4-1. CJ’s only loss (aside from a defeat against Marshall that was later forfeited) came in overtime against McNicholas, 17-16, in Week 4.

“Alter’s just had a phenomenal run, so I think everybody is excited about what they’re doing,” Raiff said. “And CJ, the boys here have put together a nice run, so it should be a fun game.”

C-J can change the game to Ohio Stadium, Paul Brown Stadium or an Arena League game at the Nutter Center. The outcome will not change. Alter’s superiority in all phases of the game will show better on field turf than that dog put C-J prefers to play in. Will the C-J fans with such a hooligan mentality be allowed into such a nice facility as Northmont’s?

Thanks for making the change of venue happen…it’s worth the drive farther north to know there will be enough seats.

It is comments from people like Black Knight that gives Alter a bad name with other schools. I am proud to have graduated from CJ and I have never seen the CJ students and fans act anyway but sportsmans- like. I HAVE seen Alter fans behave as if they are better than everyone else….guess they don’t outgrow that! Go CJ Eagles!

Alter fans can be in Ohio Stadium, CHURCH, Paul Brown Stadium, STANDING IN FRONT OF JESUS, or an Arena League game at the Nutter Center. The outcome will not change. Alter’s unsportsman-like nature in all phases will show ANYWHERE! Will the C-J fans with such a great school spirit and respectful manner be allowed into such a nice facility as Northmont’s? … the answer is YES. Congratulations Black Knight, you are the prime example of an Alter fan and you should be ashamed of yourself. I DONT EVEN GO TO CJ!

I would first like to apologize on behalf of every other Alter fan for Black Knight and his comments. I do realize we may not have the most respectful fans, but I am hoping that changes soon. From what I can tell, it seems like it’s more parents than it is students that give us our bad reputation. Nonetheless, it is unacceptable and something needs to change. As far as the game goes, I am very intrigued by the move of venue. No matter where it’s held, I am sure the game will be very competitive. I commend CJ on their success thus far and look forward to the 30th. PS Black Knight: It’s dog pit, not put. But I will be surprised if YOU are allowed in with that cocky attitude of yours. here’s a tip for you BK: the players appreciate spirit and cheering in the stands, not the crap you probably yell. I don’t even feel right to call you a supporter of the team…you’re basically just a hypocritical poser.

As good as these programs have been in the past-how is it that neither team has a decent home field of their own??

CJ Alums, I have seen an incredible amount of unsportsmanlike conduct from CJ fans and students throughout the years. I can remember the cheers about our school colors being “sh-t and gold” and many others. I guess since about 75% percent of Alter students have parents that graduated from CJ, it doesn’t speak well for CJ. Also, if you are sitting on the CJ side and I am sitting on the Alter side of the field, how do you know if I am doing anything unsportsmanlike anyway? It sounds like a bunch of made up B.S. and jealousy to me. I get kind of tired of the “poor dayton boy” mentality. Not everyone at Alter is wealthy and not everyone at CJ is poor. You know this and so does everyone else. Vic Cassano buys us new band uniforms one year and everyone goes crazy about how we are rich snobs, yet no one ever brings up the millions given to CJ by the Mathile family or Carroll’s stadium being donated by a wealthy supporter. Give me a break with this crap! Just because one idiot like “black knight” makes a comment to get you fired up on here doesn’t mean that everyone feels the same or has the same attitude. Alter has done a great job due to the sacrifices of the parents and the community just like CJ and Carroll have. We all have the same goals and we are really all on the same team when you look at the big picture.

KBE, same for you on taking what one person says on what they believe is for CJ We know we are far from perfect, but we also have seen some not so nice behavior from Alter Fans. I was standing next to the father, of an Alter player, for whom they stopped the game and asked to leave because he was in the endzone calling the players on the field some unsavory things. This rivalry could be a good thing if black knight and others stopped to think about what they said in such a public forum. I think thanks to the current students in both schools it is getting better

To all those accusing the opposing team of unsportsmanlike conduct, I wish you would please stop. No offense to CJ, nor to Alter, but really we all know that every team has “those fans” that just don’t want to shut up. It’s pretty obvious just by reading comments posted here that those people are around. To Stokes #20, if this is the real Stokes, I do want to say good luck to you this week and good luck against my Knights. I hope you guys are packing some good hits. No matter what the score, I really am hoping my senior year Alter-CJ game is one to be remembered. I am glad to see high school football players making a stand for themselves. Good work, and good luck this week against Bacon.

I agree with Stokes, let the talking be done on the field. Leave the trash talking for lesser people. Also agreed that unsavory things have been said on both sides, and most of us know this. Black knight you embarrassed your own community with that mentality. Leave that attitude at home.let the players play. Cj plays in dog pit for lack of better venue options right now, and there you go with your own snobbishness with that remark. Don’t point at Cj after making that comment.

KBE we didn’t create the poor Dayton boy mentality. Alter did. We don’t whine about being poor. Alter students called us the N word and now it’s white trash, so who created that? Ask any athlete what names they have been called by Alter students and some athletes have even had very unsportsmanlike treatment from a certain Alter coach that you Alter fans worship, so don’t put that on CJ’s shoulders. It’s not money, it’s attitude.

I played high school football with the alter coach. Hard to imagine unsportsmanlike from him. But that was many years ago. People change. I have a grandson who plays for a school in the SWBL. I know some of the names that opposing players have called these kids is simply evil. I dont hear it from the fans. Not yet anyway. Alter and CJ is a great rival game. Who cares where it is played. As the coach from Dixie said in the newspaper last year when the wind knocked out power in Brookville before their game. “Who cares, we will play them on sunday in a corn field”. Good luck Alter AND CJ. Wish I could be there.

CJ Grad or fan, You are judging a whole community on the actions of a few. Like I said, most of Alter parents or grandparents went to CJ, so why would they want to trash where they came from? I think it’s way blown out of proportion. I could do the same with CJ. My Mom taught for years at a CJ feeder school and gave time and money to all of the CJ fundraisers that were held throughout the years, even though her kids attended Alter, yet she endured the animosity that the other teachers and students held towards Alter. When a fellow teacher’s daughter was invited to go to Alter’s prom with a boy in their neighborhood, she wouldn’t let her go because she hated Alter and didn’t want her to attend “any” Alter events. She purposely said this in front of my Mom knowing that we were an Alter family. The hatred is unreal yet very real! A lot of what you are talking about is hearsay and is involved in the heat of competition at a sporting event. What I am talking about is first hand, real and is going on in the every day lives of CJ fans. It is ingrained in them at a very young age.

I have two sons who are athletes @ CJ. I wrestled and played baseball at CJ. I have witnessed poor sportsmanship throughout the years from many teams. It has gotten worse over the last decade for one reason. Trash talking, hip-hop, pro athletes being poor role models for our youth and parents who don’t discipine their kids. The CJ-Alter rivalry is one of the best in the area, but this years game is solely for bragging rights in the GCL. Both teams are going to make the playoffs, and in different divisions. I hope both the Knights & Eagles both represent the strength of the GCL, the pride of both schools, and bring home championships to the Dayton area.

Alter is nothing. Maybe after the game alter will be a bit humbled and get a feeling of what its like to not be on top. Punks. go eagles

With all this talk of unsportsmanlike conduct from both schools, I wonder about all the “values” catholic schools are supposed to teach.

By jj

It ain’t the kids from Alter as much as it is the parents. They’re horrible. I’ve repeatedly heard the “N” word from the Alter parents, who feel CJ is beneath them. The kids play the game, let them play and shut your mouth. The values are at both schools, but it all starts at home.
