Payne to announce college choice Thursday evening

Adreian Payne, the highly recruited Jefferson High School center, is expected to announce his college choice on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. at Jefferson High School, Jefferson coach Art Winston said Wednesday.

Payne, listed as the 20th-best prospect in his class nationally by Rivals.com, is expected to choose between Arizona, Kentucky, Michigan State and West Virginia.

Known as a skilled shot blocker and rebounder who moves quickly up and down the floor, Payne has been highly recruited throughout his high school career.

MSU is the best fit for AP. They have a bright future for years to come, the playing time will be there his freshman year after Morgan leaves, they have been to 5 final fours in the past 11 years and they have a good HONEST coach in Izzo!

He’ll go to UK, sit on the bench for 2 years, and never fully develop. Overrated player with way too much recruiting hype.

Yeah True Blue, and let’s hang a few more major violations on the John Calipari led Wildcat$. Is it true that he breaks the rules in his sleep too? Are you Kentucky fans going to just pretend Calipari isn’t a filthy rat and hope people forget what he has done at UMa$$ and Memphi$? Good luck!

MSU is best from academics and the support system there to the good guys on the team and a virtual guarantee of a Final Four appearance. Also, coach will look out for your best interest whether it is entering the draft early to help family financial situations (he will make sure you know your draft position). He knows to encourage you when guanateed money is there. He will also encourage you to get your education in the end (even if leaving early) and handle your money so you dont end up broke like Antoine Walker.

As a UD fan, I was disappointed when Payne eliminated the Flyers, but glad he didn’t string them along until the end. UD’s 5 recruits for 2010 are a top 20 recruiting class and with Payne easily would have been top 10.

I do not get the hype surrounding this kid. 6’10 in a DIII league and he averages 12 points a game? Too many people seem to buy into the ‘potential’ of a player and not the results they put out on the floor. WVU, Arizona, MSU, Kentucky, whoever can have him. Biggest flop in the Dayton area since Seth Gorney from Vandalia Butler left for Iowa.

Dayton gets one lucky upset and they talk enough smack for several NCAA tourney championships. LOL. The PAYNE is coming to Morgantown. Huggs is slowly making WVU the next UNC or Kansas!! Believe it.

By David U

October 29, 2009 9:50 AM | Link to this

Seriously, AP, why in the world would you want to play in the Big 10? Look at the competitiveness of the Big East. Look at the teams you’ll be playing against. Look at all the tv exposure the Big East gets. No conference will prepare you for the NBA like the Big East. And no coach can get you prepared for the NBA like Huggins.

Would have liked to see him come to UD, but I for one also believes he is vastly overated, however you cant coach height and wingspan, two things he does have just hope the kid is elilgible as from what I also hear he is borderline. Anyway goodluck kid went to school with his dad at Roth.
