CJ’s Staley and Walker, Fairmont’s Cogan and Sant land OHSBCA honors

Samarie Walker and Joe Staley of Chaminade Julienne and Fairmont’s Tim Cogan and Cassie Sant have been honored by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association.

Walker was named the Division II player of the year and Staley a scholarship winner. Cogan and Sant were named the D-I coach and player of the year.

The selections were announced on Wednesday, April 14. All the honorees will be recognized during the North-South All-Star boys and girls games on Sunday, April 18 at Capital University in Columbus.

The OHSBCA awards $1,000 scholarships to the sons and daughters of coaching members who have been active in the organization for at least five years.

Walker, a 6-1 G/F/C combo, averaged 16.2 points and 9.9 rebounds in leading the Eagles (19-6) to a three-way tie for the GGCL Grey North title with Alter and Carroll. CJ also was the regional runner-up to Alter.

Staley, a 6-3 forward, led the GCL in scoring (18.0). The Eagles were 16-5 and tied Fenwick for the North Division title.

Sant, a 6-2 center, averaged 12.6 points and 7.0 rebounds and led the Firebirds (22-3) to the D-I state semifinals, falling 61-55 to Toledo Waite. She’s headed to the University of Dayton to play basketball.

Adam Craft (Covington) and Ryan Bremigan (Russia) also are among 17 boys and girls to be awarded scholarships, and Greg Kahlig (Ft. Recovery) is the D-IV player of the year.

Others landing OHSBCA scholarships are: Logan Barrick (Wheelersburg), Stefanie Beskid (Meadowbrook), Brian Boyce (Perrysburg), Trudy Dunlevy (Indian Creek), Joe Hilgenberg (Coschocton), Lauren Peck (Ottawa Glandorf), Tyler Peters (Medina), Jordan Schimmoeller (Ottoville), Blaine Schwiebert (Patrick Henry), Skyler Simpson (Centerburg), Danielle Taflinger (Lima Central Catholic), Collin and Corbin Walker (Archbold) and alternate Jennifer Homan (Ontario Local).
