Fort Loramie girls to celebrate 40 years of hoop
The Fort Loramie girls high school basketball program has come a long way since that 0-10 opening season in 1971-72.
The Redskins will celebrate 40 years of girls hoop on Saturday, Feb. 12, against visiting St. Henry. The game will begin at noon.
Fort Loramie has fully recovered from that 0-for beginning. The Redskins have won 20 league titles, 17 district championships, five regional titles and have been to the state tournament five times, including last season. The 1997 team was the state runner up.
Jane Poeppelman started the program and coached for 22 seasons. Current coach Carla Siegel is in her 12th year.
Fort Loramie also will celebrate senior night and will honor seven players. Among the special seven are Janel Olberding and Clark Ruhenkamp. Both surpassed 1,000 career points this season.
Olberding has landed an athletic scholarship to run track at Ohio State University. Ruhenkamp will play volleyball at Grand Valley (Mich.) State.

It’s “Clair” Ruhenkamp, not Clark.
