Northmont LB Kaleb Ringer commits to Michigan

CLAYTON — Usually the one who delivers the hits, it didn’t take long for Kaleb Ringer to take some whacks after verbally committing to play football at the University of Michigan.

“Of course you’re going to get that stink-eye look,” said Northmont High School’s standout junior linebacker on Tuesday.

“Like, what? You’re going to Michigan? But my parents, family and friends were very supportive. That helps in the process.”

Ringer recently committed to the Wolverines and new coach Brady Hoke. He is the first Dayton-area recruit to be plucked by Hoke, a standout player at Fairmont East in the mid 1970’s, and likely won’t be the last.

For the rest of this story, see Wednesday’s Dayton Daily News.

I know him personally, and he definitely did not want this published yet.. Very noble of you to take a teenager’s moment away from him, Marc.

By TomVH

So when a kid asks you to hold a story until Friday, you go ahead and run it? That’s pretty nice of you. At least you got your page clicks out of it.

By Luke

April 12, 2011 8:44 PM | Link to this

I agree with you, Sean…These journalists want something they can run with as “breaking news” and don’t care if they completely destroy the kid’s plans in the process. No integrity…they don’t care.

By Steve

How crass. Take the kid’s moment in the limelight. You probably boo Santa and steal little kids’ lunch money.

Stealing suckers from little kids doesn’t do it for you anymore so you feel you need to scoop everyone and ruin a kids moment in the spotlight. You are an idiot. Just so you know… everyone already knew we were all just keeping our mouths shut until Friday. Try it sometime.

You have no integrity at all! You stole this kids spotlight. THis is a once in a lifetime event for him and you took it from him. Way to go! You are a doucebag for doing this to a teenager. I hope you dont get to talk to another single player at all for what youve done

Congratulations to Kaleb and his achievement! Best of luck with the maize and blue. With that said, it is unbelievably asinine to report this against Kaleb’s wishes. You should be ashamed of yourself, Marc. But clearly you aren’t as you could not care less about Kaleb and his special moment. Marc Pendelton obviously has no class or integrity. Hope it was worth it, as you have likely lost all credibility when it comes to future stories of this nature. smh

Another piece of great sports journalism here out of the (blackeye)I mean the buckeye state. This ranks right up there with the Kirk Herbstreet antics of the Great Ohio alums, Always trying to blow the cover off stuff, just in case you forget the Les Miles to Michigan story… I think this is purposely done, in order to p**s people off about their decisions, in regards to hoping that they may change their minds about their decision.

Try to separate the Hatred For Michigan thing for a second…this was a testament to how low a third-rate writer can stoop to try and break a story, which doesn’t mean much to anybody other than the kid, his family, and his circle of friends. I actually feel for the kid. Biggest decision of his life so far, and some sniveling no-talent gets to ruin it, because he wants to. Nice work, dude.

By Bay Ct

April 13, 2011 12:16 PM | Link to this

This is completely shameful. First the reporting. I don’t care how much of a buckeye fan you are Marc, you have a rating of O as a journalist! This is not about sports anymore, it’s about respecting Kaleb as a human being first. Second, I read the comments in the morning today, and now a third of them have been removed. Way to go DDN. I guess it hurt when others broke the news to you about Marc being a horrible journalist.

By LG

April 13, 2011 12:31 PM | Link to this

As a journalist, it’s Marc’s job to report the news. If Ringer wanted to break the news himself, he shouldn’t have told a journalist. Now if Marc did say “I’ll hold the story” then ran it anyway, then he’s a scumbag. If his bosses said run the story, he at least owed Ringer a phone call to tell him.

Got news for all you folks ripping this guy. The news of Ringer going to Michigan was all over the internet recruiting sites, tweets, texts and Go Blue blogs on Tuesday afternoon.
