Little Miami Local Schools are asking voters to pass a 1 percent earned income tax to fund its operating expenses. If the tax does not pass, the district will have two chances to pass an operating levy early next year, but if they are unable to find a way to bring in more revenue, the district will face $4 million in cuts by the 2009-2010 school year. For even more information, click here.
Ross Local Schools in Butler County have used an income tax to fund their schools, and now they are asking voters to change that to an earned income tax. For more information about what Ross is doing, click here.

Karrie Brown, English teacher at Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby, Ohio, figured out a way to get students who previously failed English classes to be interested in the subject. She used a program called Read 180, a reading intervention program that looks and feels like MySpace and Facebook, integral social networks for most American teens. Using Read 180, Brown facilitates differentiated learning for reading and writing through a Wiki, a collection of Web pages and other documents that can be created and edited individually or collectively on line. In the name of English Language Arts, Brown’s students post pictures, research projects, thoughts and questions on Wikispace.
