Bar Talk: What would your fortune cookie say?
The NY Times ran a story about the history of fortune cookies and some of the changes that are on the horizon.
The paper is reporting that cookies are showing up with sayings like, “Today is a disastrous day. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.” and “It’s over your head now. Time to get some professional help.”
The maker of the cookies, Wonton Foods, says it has more than 10,000 phrases rotated through its 4.5 million cookies it makes each day.
So, who said that fortune cookies have to be all happy? Why not have a Debbie Downer writing a whole line of sayings for a line of cookies. Maybe the next time you go for Chinese you’ll get a fortune that says “have a bad day…” or “Wait, are you sure that was duck?” and smile.
Any suggestions for fortune cookie sayings?
