These bar best bets are brought to you by staff writer Amelia Robinson.

A long holiday weekend means things will be cracking at area bars and clubs. Area hot spots will be celebrating the Fourth of July. When the fireworks are over, look for sparks at one of these best bets.

Cornhole at Brixx

Nothing says the Fourth of July like people tossing beanbags at holes. The wayward cornhole had better beware; Brixx Ice Company promises a backyard-like festival during its Independence Day cornhole tournament. Featured music includes Sawgrass and the Prescriptions.

Where: Brixx Ice Company, 500 E. First St., Dayton

When: 3 p.m. Saturday, July 4

The Bite: Registration fee for the tournament is $20 per team. Cash prizes will be awarded to the victors.

Heavy bash at Coyote’s Pub

Local heavy metal favorites TINJ and Sawed Off will make Fourth of July noise when they take the stage during Coyote’s Pub bash. TINJ is fronted by Middletown native John Price, who takes inspiration from some heavy-hitters: Geoff Tate of Queensryche, James Hetfield of Metallica and Phil Anselmo of Pantera.

Where: Coyote’s Pub, 5358 Springboro Pike, West Carrollton

When: 10 p.m. Saturday, July 4.

The Bite: Admission’s free, so you’re the one who can bite.

Dirtybone at the Brig

Head out on the highway. The classic rock/southern rock act Dirtybone will help The Brig in Troy celebrate Bike Day. Take your bike and prepare to kick back.

Where: The Brig, 118 W. Main St., Troy

When: 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 5.

The bite: Call (937) 335-3717 for cover charge information

Regardless of what you think about Michael Jackson the person, it’s hard to argue the fact that we’ve lost a music and entertainment legend.

Thursday night, just hours after Jackson’s death spread, local bars and patrons spent their evening remembering Michael Jackson — whether through jukebox tunes just about anywhere, a special Michael Jackson tribute karaoke at Therapy Cafe and we’re sure many more.

Those tributes to Michael Jackson are expected to continue. Here are some special events we know of coming up:

There’s a narrow window of time that Ohio patios can be maximized in good weather and the following few months present prime opportunities. We’re planning an upcoming feature that will print in the DDN GO! section and on our Web sites on our favorite local patios, but first we need your help. Here’s the problem: We already know our favorites spots to savor summer but we don’t know yours. We want to leave no patio stone paver unturned. Whether you are a patio owner or a patio aficionado, we want to hear from you. Where are your favorite places to go to enjoy summer sippers and dining with a view of mother nature? Are there hidden sunny spots in town to take in a view of the sky with a cocktail in close reach? Does your outdoor dining spot have more to offer customers than others? What makes it so great? Inquiring minds want to know. If you think you’ve got the answers, leave us a comment here about your patio find. Please include the name, address, phone number and Web site (if applicable) of the patio you’re recommending so we can give you credit for showing us the light (that is sure to greet us outdoors). Please also include a few lines about why your particular patio holds such a warm spot in your heart. We thank you in advance, readers thank you in advance.

Tailgating will collide with a “Top Chef”-like food treatment on June 27 when the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery opens the doors for its first ever Hops Over the Moon event.

The evening will showcase fine foods paired with seven craft beers from Cleveland-based Great Lakes Brewing in four distinct outdoor venues on the museum grounds. An optional 5K race/walk will take place at 6:30 p.m. along DeWeese Parkway for those interested in adding some exercise to the mix.

“The idea to create an exciting outdoor event sprang from a desire to not only support our outdoor education efforts, but also to showcase areas of the Museum that most people are not familiar with,” said Matt Davenport, co-chair of the event and a member of the Museum’s Volunteer Associate Board. “While there are other festivals and beer-tasting events in the region, none of them have access to our unique property and the knowledgeable staff that will provide great programs for learners of all ages.”

LOVE YOUR HOPS? “HOPS OVER THE MOON” IS THE TICKET FOR YOU.

Great Lakes Brewing Co. will have staff on hand to speak to craft beer enthusiasts and to provide information on the company’s sustainability practices. The environmentally and socially conscious brewer, now in its 21st year of business, has worked to initiate a number of green “zero waste” measures that include the use of an alternative fuel truck and major recycling efforts, and has also worked to find ways to reuse by-products of the brewing process to create everything from organic fertilizers to ice cream.

“We love the opportunity to take part in this event,” said Great Lakes Area Manager Lisa Farmer, who has been representing her company in helping the Boonshoft plan the event. “This is an ideal partnership. We are incorporating the environment, education and of course great food with great beer.”

<![CDATA[Schlitz — the beer that made Milwaukee famous — is going back to a “Classic ’60s Formula” and is planning several launch parties on June 18 around Dayton to celebrate the liquid time-warp.

For those wishing to sample the 1960s formula at the launch parties (which are to include 60s music, gusto girls and raffles) here’s a couple of places you can go:

6:15-7:30 p.m. - Kramer’s Tavern (1018 Irving Avenue - (937) 294-9141)

7:45-9 p.m. - Jimmie’s Cornerstone Bar & Grill (1001 Brown Street - (937) 424-1784)

9-10 p.m. - Blind Bob’s (430 East 5th Street - (937) 938-6405)

“Our goal was to bring back the taste of the ’60s when beer wasn’t watered down,” said Brad Hittle, Chief Marketing Officer at Schlitz. “The response has been overwhelming, and we’re proud to bring back the beer that generations of Schlitz lovers enjoyed for years.”

“Schlitz wants to reconnect with its once core group of consumers,” added Hittle. “We are confident that the return of the classic formula in heritage inspired packaging delivered with an old school, gusto attitude will do the job.”

It must be summer because two Dayton bars are encouraging beach wear this week. Hope you’ve been working on your tan.

‘I’m On a Boat’ Foam Party at Adobe Gila’s, Saturday, June 13

Too bad Andy and The Lonely Island boys won’t be there.

Grab your flippy floppies and that nautical-themed pashmina afghan because this Saturday you’ll be “straight floatin’ on a boat” at Adobe Gila’s. Well, OK, technically you’ll just be in a room full of foam, but it should still be pretty sweet. Prepare to get sudsy. Drink specials include $14 Fishbowls, $10 Bud Buckets and $4 shots.

Where: Adobe Gilas, 78 Plum St., Beavercreek
 When: Saturday, June 13
 The bite: No cover charge

Luau Party at Hammerjax, Wednesday, June 17
College Night at Hammerjax is going Hawaiian this week. Make sure to limber up for the drunken limbo and hula hoop contests. Drink specials include $2.50 Coronas and $3 Blue Hawaiians. The party is 18 and up, and ladies in bikini tops get in free.

Where: Hammerjax, 111 E. Fourth St., Dayton
 When: Wednesday, June 17

<![CDATA[You know, you don’t have to sit at home this weekend. Check out these three bar best bets.

Pride Night at Club Masque, Saturday, June 6

Taylor Dayne will headline Masque’s Pride Night

After the parade (11 a.m. starting at Cooper Park) and citywide Pride
Fest (runs until 6 p.m. at Courthouse Square), it’s time to party at Club Masque. Pack the dance floor for performances by dance-chart-topping vocalists Taylor Dayne and Inaya Day.

Where: Club Masque, 34 N. Jefferson St., Dayton
 When: 7 p.m. Saturday, June 6
The bite: $10 for 18-20, $7 for 21 and up.

Soulfood Sundays at Therapy Café, first and third Sunday of every month
Why spend Sunday at home on the couch when you could be out at one of the most stylish, and yes, soulful parties around. Every first and third Sunday, Dayton’s trendiest are not watching “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” They are enjoying Therapy Café’s custom cocktails, homemade soul food, and an open mic night of hip-hop, R&B and spoken word. It’s not your typical karaoke (those taking the mic can SING!), and it’s not your casual Sunday crowd. Make sure you dress to impress.

Where: Therapy Café, 452 E. Third St., Dayton
When: 8 p.m. to midnight, first and third Sunday of every month
The bite: $7, food is available for per plate charge

Summer fun at Wings Sports Bar
The patio bar is open for business at Wings, which means live outdoor music, cornhole and trivia. The patio opens at 3 p.m. every Saturday all summer, with live music at 9 p.m. If indoors is more your scene, DJ Reggie kicks things off on the inside stage at 9 p.m. Be sure to enter a cornhole tournament; they start at 7 p.m. Thursdays. Trivia on the patio starts at 6 p.m. Wednesdays. Bring the softball team on Mondays and enjoy Happy Hour prices until 11 p.m.

Where: Wings Sports Bar and Grille, 7902 N Dixie Drive, Vandalia
The bite: No cover, call (937) 898-0280 for more information.

What else is on the social agenda this weekend?
