In case you overslept, it’s apparently time to go back to school. That’s
right, break’s over for the college crowd. Time to hit the books. Luckily
lots of local venues want to ease your winter quarter blues with some great
back-to-school parties this week. Just get your homework done first.

Welcome Back Fest at c{space

We’re not sure who leaked the secret to Dayton Campus Connect that college
students like free stuff, but the cat is out of the bag. Take advantage by
attending a free “Welcome Back to Dayton” concert just for college students.
In addition to music by Bonneville and the Jay Walkers, area businesses will
be on hand giving out free stuff, deals, and info on what Dayton has to
offer. Plus it’s a great chance to mingle with students from other campuses.

WHERE: c{space, 20 N. Jefferson St., Dayton

WHEN: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21

THE BITE: Free. All college students welcome; just bring your student ID.

MORE: Get info on parking and transportation at www.daytoncampusconnect.com.

Back to School Bash at Atmosphere

Elite Management is throwing another back-to-school party, similar to last
weekend’s bash at Dixie Cowgirls (check out our pictures at
www.ActiveDayton.com/photos). You know the theme - naughty school girl. But
the price tag - $5 all-you-can-drink until midnight - is the real reason to
brave the cold. You don’t actually need a college ID for this one, and since
the age restriction is 18 and up for girls, 21 and up for guys, actually
being a student doesn’t seem to be required.

WHERE: Atmosphere, 507 Miamisburg Centerville Road, Centerville

WHEN: 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15

THE BITE: $5

Earn your book money at South Beach

Ladies, need $250 for this semester’s books? Have you been paying attention
in Cardio Striptease class at the gym? Try your luck in the Sexy Pole Dance
Contest at South Beach this Friday and you could go home with $250 in cash.
Make sure to bring all your friends because the crowd picks the winner.

WHERE: South Beach Nite Club, 729 Lyons Road (Washington Park Plaza),
Centerville

WHEN: Friday, Jan. 15

THE BITE: Call (937) 439-9040 for more information.

Jager Bomb Night at Jay and Jeans

What do college students love more than free stuff? Jager Bombs! All Jager
and Cherry Bombs are $3. Plus enjoy live music by unannounced local acts.

WHERE: Jay and Jeans, 1124 Leo St., Dayton

WHEN: 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15

THE BITE: $3 cover charge, 21 and up only

Yep, it’s not a joke ladies - those Chippendales. The bow ties, the dancing,
the abs! But Dayton native and 5-year Chippendale dancer, Chris Holliman,
wants you to know that a Chippendale show is more than scantily-clad men
dressed as cowboys. (Of course there is that number where they are dressed
as cowboys!)

“A lot of people hear Chippendales and think of some guy that comes to your
office with a boombox,” he said. (We actually prefer to picture Patrick
Swayze and Chris Farley in a battle of the bods on SNL!)

“It’s an actual production show,” Holliman said. “It’s the same show they do
in Vegas.”

Holliman and his six-pack, which were discovered at a mall, have traveled
the world dancing for crowds of lucky ladies that he said can range in age
from 18 to 80.

Santarchy Dayton 2009

Santarchy involves a large gathering of people dressed as various
incarnations of Santa Claus — and this event that takes place in cities
across the globe is coming to Dayton this Saturday. The ultimate goal is to
infuse the good cheer and spirit of the holidays with just a wee bit of
bawdy behavior on a bar crawl. Some of the Santarchy rules listed on the
Santarchy Dayton Web site: You must dress like Santa. You should “Ho-Ho-Ho”
like Santa. You ought to give out gifts like Santa (naughty for the adults,
nice for the kids). You gotta drink like Santa. Santa doesn’t get arrested.
Santa is the answer for all questions. Where’s the next stop? Only Santa
knows.

WHERE: That’s for the party planners to know and you to find out. Sign up at
www.santarchydayton.com to receive text messages telling you where to meet
and where to go next.

WHEN: Beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19

THE BITE: Depends on how much you plan on imbibing — it’s all up to you.

Tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m., the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery will host its first Pub Science program at Blind Bob’s in the Oregon District.

The program for adults looking to mix libations with learning will feature Dr. David Goldstein, Chair of Wright State’s Department of Biological Sciences.

The topic? Cryopreservation.

“The idea of a living creature being able to survive being frozen and reanimated is more than just a science fiction fantasy,” says Susan Pion, Vice President, Education for the Boonshoft Museum. “Some amphibians go through this process each winter to survive the bitter cold, and Dr. Goldstein is one of the many scientists working to discover just how they accomplish this.”

According to the museum, the program has been, “designed to encourage lifelong learners to explore topics ranging from forensic science to nanotechnology … It will provide a forum for experts to share their passion for their work with people who are interested in learning about the various science-based topics, but may not have a background in the subject matter.”

The Pub Science series will take place on the second Tuesday of each month at various locations throughout Dayton.

Admission tonight is free of charge but donations will be accepted at the door. Blind Bob’s (430 East Fifth Street, Dayton) is offering a 10% discount on all food orders from Pub Science participants during the event.

For more information, call (937) 275-7431, ext. 116 or visit www.BoonshoftMuseum.org
