Thieves hit car wash for hundreds of dollars in quarters

CLAYTON ( June 19) — Police responded to Plaza Car Wash, 8420 N. Main St., after a theft was reported. The property manager said two males stole about $100 in quarters from the coin machine in front of the building. He told police he got a call from someone telling him that two people were traveling to different places in Ohio to steal money from car washes. The call came from a “423” area code, which is near Knoxville, Tenn. The property manager removed the $2,000 to $3,000 that is normally in the machine and left a few hundred dollars. He provided police with surveillance video of the crime. It’s unclear how the thieves gained access to the machine. One was wearing a T-shirt with “Clinton Dragons” on it.
