A Trotwood issue that deserves attention
Some members of the Trotwood City Council and some residents are having severe heartburn over the prospect of Greyhound buses operating out of the RTA bus hub in Trotwood.
There’s been plenty of misinformation on the subject. Whether or not it will bring ruin to the city is a matter of debate.
Perhaps, the council and citizens should focus their concerns on something a bit more pressing — such as the impending bankruptcy of GM.
What effect will that have on much-heralded James Group’s parts repackaging operation on Olive Road? Its sole client is General Motors.
Perhaps it’s an issue that warrants some heartburn.

The proposed move by Greyhound from downtown to Trotwood is the bus company’s decision, and in its own best interest. The east-west bus from Indy to Columbus must now go 10 miles out of the way (of Interstate 70); burning fuel and time for an ever decreasing ridership in order to get downtown. The Trotwood move would save the Grey-dog big dinero. Detroit and Kansas City are but two cities that recently moved their bus stations to the ‘burbs from downtown. However, whoever denies that a Greyhound station brings dysfunction as well as travelers is not being honest. Middle sized towns like Springfield have lost full-time terminals altogether and there is a 900 mile swath in the north-midwest states that the Dog has quit altogether…..By angel

I agree with Don. I actually like riding the Greyhound. And I like waiting for friends & family in the Depot downtown. If it were moved anywhere else, it just wouldn’t be the same - And it wouldn’t be as convenient as it is now with all the busing downtown. If someone didn’t have a ride to pick them up, they could just ride the bus home (or to their final destination). It’s what I would do. But if they move it to Trotwood, the bus options are going to be limited, especially now with the fare hikes and transfer fees. It’s just outrageous to even think about. That Greyhound station is an icon - Just like the Arcade. Move it & it just won’t be the same. Downtown has already gone to the dogs with tearing down the old High School, closing the Arcade, not having anything really for the kids anymore, building parking garages, and high-priced apartments nobody can afford, except the people they are trying to segregate against - And NOT EVERYONE likes baseball (least of all me- I hate it, and wish they had never built the stadium, but that’s just my opinion). I just hope they will keep at least one thing the same downtown.By Don

I agree. I actually like taking the bus but most people assume that only the dredges of society hang around bus stations. Not everyone wants to drive everywhere. Sometimes I just like to look at the scenery. Quite a few of the opinions are stereotypical and really don’t hold water.By Inco

The group opposing the Greyhound station is comprised of bigots, pure & simple. Their argumants are based on profiling and negative stereotypes. What they are trying to do is no different than blacklining a person or business based on race or sex.
