U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan to give the GOP radio address

The region’s own Rep. Jim Jordan served as the spokesman for all House Republicans when he delivered the House Republican Conference radio address Friday.

And his subject was a doozy: He addressed the intelligence-gathering legislation set to expire Saturday night. The House adjourned Thursday without bringing up the bill, much to the dismay of the House Republicans in the minority.

“Make no mistake: this essential law will expire because House Democrat leaders decided to put partisan priorities over the public interest,” Jordan said in his address. “And when that moment comes in a matter of hours from now, our intelligence community will be at a disadvantage - and your security will be at greater risk.”

Jordan said the law “gives our intelligence community the tools they need to track the movements of foreign terrorists in an era when al Qaeda can transmit its marching orders anywhere in the world in an instant. It allows intelligence agents to detect and disrupt terror plots before they can be carried out and kill untold numbers of innocent Americans.”

The Senate this week passed an extension of the law.

“By failing to act, House Democrats have done our nation a terrible disservice this week. The times we live in demand vigilance - not indifference- from Washington,” he said.

The House Democratic leadership deserves to catch hell on this. The hang up is granting immunity to communication companies because their greatest supporter, the trial lawyers, want to be able to extort and sue them. There is no question they are putting political interests ahead of the country’s security but even more telling is the cavalier attitude they take in playing with the security of the American people. The liberal and left Democrats who lead the house do not recognize the dangers we face. Their actions reflect an attitude that “the terrorists got lucky and we really don’t have to worry about them that much any more”. They are willing to put citizens at risk for the sake of allowing their friends the trial lawyers to earn a few bucks so they can pass it along to back to them so they can spend it on maintaining and gaining power. Fortunately others in their party are not as wacko as the bill would pass with bi partisan support had it been brought to a vote showing there still is some common sense in the Democratic party. Everyone points to the President’s low approval ratings but Pelosi and her minions rate well below him. She is without a doubt the worst speaker of the house ever and is putting this country and its citizens at great risk with her antics. San Francisco can have her!
