Obamas coming to Ohio on Friday
Democrat Barack Obama must not be superstitious, at least when it comes to Ohio. The Illinois senator, with his wife Michelle, will be in the Columbus area on Friday, June 13, to meet with seniors, his campaign said on Tuesday, June 10.
Gov. Ted Strickland, who recently announced his support for Obama for president after backing Sen. Hillary Clinton, will be with the Obamas, Obama’s campaign said.
The stop on Obama’s “Change that Works for You” tour will be his first visit to Ohio since he wrapped up the Democratic nomination for president last week. The meeting is by invitation only but is open to the press, the campaign said.

Diplomacy… A word that no neocon or Bushy would understand. Stable diplomatic relations with other countries is important. Also, it is important to converse with countries that may be considered our enemies. We did that with the Soviet Union for decades. The problem is, the neocons dread diplomacy. TRS, it is not a sign of weakness. The next president will reestablish diplomatic relations with other countries and, perhaps enlist their aid in disuading third world countries from building nukes. (Remember that Bush destroyed diplomatic relations with other countries!) Except of course, “you forgot Poland” It is still in question whether or not North Korea actually set off a Nuke. Since it was in the sub-kiliton range and had very little release of radiation. It could have been a conventional “dirty bomb”, with no delivery method. If any country were to launch a nuclear weapon, they in turn would be turned into a glass factory. Essentially, bounced rubble. Because, a retaliatory strike would be launch. If Israel were attacked, Israel would launch their nukes at the agressor. We may not be able to stop third world countries from building nukes. The concept is not that difficult and some third world nations could acquire the necessary materials to make them work. And, we may not be able to stop this. Think of Pakistan and India. But, diplomacy may help stop some of the agression. All weapons man has created have been used in a war. Including the atomic bomb.By Savanation

TRS has learned a new word- appeasement. Just the word, not the meaning. I guess Fox News didn’t get that far. Strange how TRS always picks right up on the “Word du Jour” form the party which has no ideas, just smears and lies. ” Let a country ruled by fanatics who believe their goal in life is to facilitate an apocolyptic war to bring about the new world order”.(TRS) What an apt description of our country today and for the past eight years. What a hypocrite! TRS, your advocation of silliness for the past eight years has cost us dearly - in money, in lack of respect, in damage to on Constitution, and in massive loss of life, a needless, criminal loss of life. You voted for a nut to do your killing for you. Now you want to have another nut do some more killing for you. The time of nuts has passed. Most people, obviously not you, have come to their senses and realize the horrible mistake they have made. They will try to at least partially salve their conscience by electing, this time, the most qualified man for the job. They and you blew it on Al Gore and John Kerry. 4000 dead soldiers attest to that fact. Just as an aside - do you realize that if Al Gore had rightfully become President, there might be one mention a month in the news about a small backward country called Iraq? Now as we see probably the three trillionth mention of Iraq in the news, we have only people like you to blame. There will be no blame this time. Those who do not think are finally in the smallest minority. Don’t you understand, TRS, the simple fact is, you are wrong. And those who are right have to clean up your mess. You say you are “no fan of war”. Have you any rational reason why you voted for an incompetent nincompoop who started an immoral war and refuses to take us out of it? Doesn’t sound like you are “no fan of war”.By TRS

Yep - I understand condescending remarks pretty well. If I had time to spin a metaphoric story for you I guess I’d have to start with “Once upon a time”; but, alas the subject is to serious for that. You didn’t answer the question - you just muddied the waters. The question posed makes the assumption that all those fine statemenlike “messiah” qualities you attribute to Mr Obama have been tried and failed. Your response seems to say let them have the nuke. Let a country ruled by fanatics who believe their goal in life is to facilitate an apocolyptic war to bring about the new world order of Islam and Sharia law have WMDs. Allow the country whose mission in life is to eliminate Israel have the means by which to do it. Allow a Shite Iran to have nukes and the Sunni Saudis will want them too so as to defend themselves against the Shites. Both will want to destroy Israel and guess what - Israel has nukes too and they aren’t going down without a fight. Even your statemanlike candidate admits he won’t be changing any minds in Iran. It appears even he knows that Iran is inevitably heading toward nukes. Your answer as I understand it - appease them, let them have nukes and hope they behave. I do pray that whoever the next President is has the wisdom the prevent war. I am no fan of war - I was in one. At the same time, throughout the course of history, war has proven itself necessary, particularly when it comes to dealing with evil - and the radical Islamists are evil. I pray whoever the next President is also has the wisdom to know when force is justified. One thing I do believe - the appeasement you advocate will only lead to a greater confrontation sometime down the road for that is what the radical Islamists want.By Savanation

TRS: What was done to stop Korea from going nuclear? What was done to stop The Soviet Union from going nuclear? What was done to stop India, Pakistan, France, Great Britian? What was done to stop China from going nuclear? For that matter what was done to stop the United States from going nuclear? Have we or should we have done anything to prevent ourselves and these other nations from having nuclear weapons? I take it from your “question” that you think we should have gone to war with the bulk of the world because they thought they had the right to control their own nations. Is it good that so many have nuclear weapons? No. Is it good that Iran has nuclear weapons? Probably not. The funny thing is - the one nation which didn’t have nuclear weapons - Iraq - is the one nation Bush decided to destroy. That worked out very well, didn’t it? What we need is, not some cowboy with the intellect of a cow, trying to blast every nation which doesn’t bow deeply to the United States, what we need is someone who is tough enough, mentally and with the backbone to stand up to anyone, not as a bully, but as a thinking statesman who can talk smart and be tough and reasonable. What we had for the past eight years has been a cowboy who didn’t know how to ride or how to corral a herd or how to respect all those Injun tribes out there. Disaster on the hoof. Now we have the stupid cowboy’s faithful foreman, riding in on the same horse, with guns blazing, raring to lynch someone, but not having the damnest idea what the hell he is doing. To keep this metaphor going…There is a new sheriff coming to town. One who actually thinks and carries a big gun, who is not afraid to use it, but will not use it stupidly like the rodeo clown you voted for. Hope that answers your question. It does. I guess I hope you can understand it. That is the bigger problem.By TRS

Why do both of you evade the question, trying to deflect it with your often stated grievances against the Bush Administration? This is not a trick question. We’re talking about an potential Obama adminstration who has compelling documentation. So I ask again, if push comes to shove, should he allow Iran to go nuclear? If not, should we use any means necessary to prevent that?By mwm

With the Bush administration, there has to be valid and verifiable proof of any statement they make. When a country goes through almost eight years of consistent lies and propaganda from an administration, there is no reason to believe anything they say. Bush and the Republicans have destoyed what little trust in government there was. On January 20, we will have a new president. And, a new direction. Obama will do a great job!By Savanation

Let’s change a couple things in this question from TRS: Assume we are(eight) years into an (Bush)administration and he stands before you(he won’t) with compelling evidence that the (Iraqi)(had no WMD’s or nuclear intent to harn America) and (confessed that his lack of)diplomacy has failed (tragically for the USA)? What say you then? That Bush and his aiding and abetting party should never be allowed to harm America again? Seems to me that reasonable people would come to that conclusion. After all, it was unreasonable people who elected Bush and caused this mess. It is only natural that reasonable people, like Sen. Obama, should clean it up.By TRS

See the nukes…are you saying that Iran should be allowed to bring nuclear warheads on line, hold an open house displaying them and only then would you believe that they exist? Assume we are a couple years into an Obama administration and he stands before you with compelling evidence that the Iranians are about to go nuclear and diplomacy has failed - what say you then? Should Iran be allowed to have nuclear weapons?By mwm

The corporate gains I refer to are the corporate greed. No care for the public. 401k’s and IRA’s are somewhat portable but, pensions are going away - through things like Enron and other businesses that ended and left people with nothing. (Enron - big campaign donor to Bush) Hence, leave social security alone! When corporations get too close to the govt, as is the case with Halliburtion, Bechtel, Blackwater Mercanary and Lockheed, the lines become blurred. And when the govt calls us consumers instead of citizens, there is a problem. On the verge of NeoFascism. The current “miracle medicines” can be dangerous. And, the govt/FDA basically take the stand of “let the buyer beware” Why even have an FDA? But, it adds to overpriced medical care. And, unaffordable medical insurance. So why not open up the Federal Emloyees Health Benefit System? It works and is not socialized medicine. And allow everyone to purchase medications from Canada and other foreign countries at cheaper prices. (The FDA tried to stop that also; with lies) One would have to see proof of any “Iranian Nukes” No more fake alluminum tubes with wrong anodizing and “artist renditions” of mobile labs as was the case with Iraq, Thank you Scott McClellan! Besides, anything the Bush administration says is either a lie or propaganda. And, the subsidies to Big Oil should stop. Besides, the War for Oil in Iraq should provide cheap oil…. Part of the PNAC/neocon think tank solution. Of course, their website appears dead now. And, so are their plans. Alternative energy should be funded and pushed by the govt. Perhaps by taking the subsidies away from the oil companies and using the money for alternative energy, wind, solar, water, and hydrogen cells. Jan 20 will bring change. Goodbye neocons.By TRS

What is wrong with corporate financial gains? I’m sure alot of folks with 401K, IRAs, Pensions, etc are pleased that corporations have financial gains. Corporate financial gains are what has brought about miracle medicines and the many other things we enjoy today. If you read the editorial today bemoaning the cycle we are in, you also read that while the free enterprise system isn’t perfect, it beats everything else going. I agree that drilling is short to perhaps a medium term solution - thats why we need a balanced approach. So far the Dems answer to drilling is “just say no”. In truth, oil will be around a long time, even after bio fuels become pervasive. To many oil driven vehicles and industries around the world to see them disappear overnight. Ever wonder why the Chinese are drilling for oil of the coast of Cuba for the Cubans close to our coast? Also, as long as OPEC knows we won’t drill, then they will continue as they are. There is enough oil in this country to make a big dent in what we import and make us energy independent yet as long as they know we have no intention to pursue our reserves they will just keep on controlling the market. This issue is not just a consumer issue - it is a national security issue. Other things we could do include dropping tariffs on Brazilian Sugar cane and use it as part our the bio fuel solution. MWM - I don’t see military spending diminishing. If you wish occurs and Obama is elected, somewhere in his 1st four years he will have to decide whether he can allow Iran to go nuclear and if not, what will he do about it. Unless the Iranian people rise up, the nut cases in Iran will not stop until they have a nuke and the trouble that will ensue, be it Israel or the US/Europe, will require that we have a strong military for some time to come. As for how far the $$ Alice quotes would go - considering the cost and long term nature of Universal Health Care alone — not far.By Ethel S.

The reason that there are so many blogs about Sen. Obama vs. Sen. McCain’s visit to Ohio is that Sen. Obama is a man of many, many, many and many more words. However, before anyone gets my vote, I want specific answers as to the way they both will govern this country. I believe we deserve to have specific details of their plans for handling the many issues facing our country. Talk is cheap and actions “earn” my vote.By mwm

Drilling for oil in Alaska and other places will be a short term solution to a much bigger problem. And, may not produce much benefit in the long run. An energy program with the Halliburtons, Bechtel’s and Big oil will produce corporate financial gains. While the war for oil in Iraq has not helped our country at all. Just as in the past, our government tries to justify military spending while our communities suffer. If there were a valid reason for the war in Iraq, then our country and its citizens could understand the reasons for economic problems… To a point. But, since there is no valid reason for the war, people will vote for change. The federal employees health benefit system is an alternative to what some neocons profess as “socialized medicine” Low cost premiums for those that can afford it. And, subsidize the rest. The GI bill suggested by Sen. Webb should be a reality. They deserve it. Taxes will eventually increase to pay for the war in Iraq, since we are in so much debt. Blame may be placed on the next administration when in reality, it is the current administrations fault. Free spending Republicans have caused massive debt. They can’t be trusted. And neither can McCain.By Alice

4% is a nice small number. Here’s a nice big number: Taxpayers in Dayton, Ohio paid $47.3 million for the cost of the Iraq War in FY2007. That’s just what we spend locally. Nationally, we spend $341.4 million PER DAY. I wonder how much infrastructure and overpriced healthcare that would pay for.By alice

Obama has my vote already and I don’t need to waste any time asking questions of McCain that I already know the answer to and I won’t waste someone else’s time in answering questions I already have the answer to. I would agree with some of MWM’s comments RE need to rebuild infrastructure, etc; however, it cannot all be attributed to the war. Traditionally we spend about 4% of the budget for national defense. Currently, excluding the war, we’re at 3.6% and with the war 4%. That .4% is not going to pay for all the things discussed. Increasing taxes won’t do it, particularly in tough economic times. We have to grow our way out of it and to do that and create the jobs we need a coherent energy policy, one which develops alternatives and at the same time increases supply. Drill here, drill now and pay less.By mwm

There is a great need to put money and resources back into our country. Roads, the power grid, roads, bridges, energy and environmental projects. True border security and law enforcement. (Deny business licenses to any company that hires illegals.) Putting people back to work. This is much more important than the immoral war in Iraq and the billions being spent on said war. For working people in America, rebuilding our country is more important than rebuilding Iraq. And, billions should go to our country, NOT Iraq! Of course, the neocon thoughts are of Iraqi oil. When the veterans come home, they should have a GI bill; as proposed by Senator Webb. Bush and McCain don’t agree with this. Open up the federal employees health benefit system to all Americans. Choice of insurances at much lower premiums. And, subsidize those that can’t afford the premiums. (this was proposed by Kerry) In any event, the current administration ran our country into a great deal of debt. Partly because of their immoral and unethical war, partly because of funding “freindly contractors” like the Blackwater mercenary company, Halliburton, Bechtel, Lockheed and others. Change is appealing to a majority of Americans. Because we are angry. And, anger, combined with a cause will bring about change.By TRS

Ethel - should Obama get elected the troops are on a drawdown now; however, they will only be out if the drawdown can continue while Iraq remaining stable. The whole 16 month thing is to tickle the ears of the left as neither party wants to be saddled with that albotross of defeat. McCain will tell you this - Obama will not. Social security is a train wreck waiting to happen as is Medicare. Obama’s cure - as you pointed out, lets raise taxes and bury our heads in the sand. Universal Healthcare? Look at the state of Mass - already looking at tax hikes after two years because of costs; thus, dig the Dems answer will be to dig deep again. Regarding the government administering it, think about it. Outside the military, name me one thing the government does well? Perhaps collecting taxes but thats about it. Heck, Congress can’t even run their own restaurants as a recent article noted they were 14M in the hole! Add to that the energy issue - what do Dems do? Parade CEOs onto Capital Hill and pontificate like they care. They try to transfer blame “big oil” when all they have to do is look in the mirror and see why supplies are short - the Dems would not allow drilling or building of refineries over the past decades. For those of you who thought the war was a deception, here’s the real lie!The Dem’s answer - Windfall Profits, another tax. What a joke that was in the 70s and the Dems and Obama say lets do it again. Speaking of taxes - Obama has 30B in new spending planned. The ol’ canned line of taxing the rich, corporations, captical gains, etc might bring in between a 1/3 and 1/2 of that - where does the rest come from? Capital gains tax increase will hit millions of Americans, FICA which will hit virtually everyone, taxing corporations, oil and otherwise, always leads to higher prices because they simply pass the cost on to us. Sadly Ethel most folks aren’t really serious about answering questions, they would rather fire back with bombastic remarks, name calling and display both their ignorance and arrogance with a playground of “oh yea, says who?” response.By FreedomLover

Sen. Obama is coming to Ohio for one of his numerous Blab Contests. I hope he is asked and answers the many questions he have for him i.e. how does he plan to get the US troops out of Iraq in 16 months, what specific jobs is he bringing to Ohio and will they be paid for, how else is he going to do to reform Social Security besides raise the FICA taxes to assure seniors that the program will be around, what 15 million people will be left out of his universal health plan and how does he plan to pay for it, and who are the other associations has that are not the people he knows, and when he finds out about these people will be add them to the list to throw them under the bus along with his ministers, his grandmother, his crazy uncle, and his church. Sen. Obama is not ready to lead this country. Sen. McCain has the experience, character, and judgment . Not only is Sen. McCain a military hero, he has a son in Iraq, and an adopted daughter.
