Support for McCain, Obama shows gender, racial divide
Democrat Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain by 9 points - 50-41 percent - in a new national poll that shows a racial and gender divide in the race for president.
On a week when both Obama and McCain are speaking to the national NAACP convention in Cincinnati, the Quinnipiac University poll, released Tuesday, July 15, shows black voters supporting Obama 94-1 percent, while McCain leads 49-42 percent among white voters.
Among women, Obama leads 55-36 percent while McCain has a 47-44 percent percent edge among men.
Obama and McCain each got 44 percent from independent voters.
The poll, taken Tuesday, July 8, through Sunday, July 13, with 1,725 likely voters nationwide has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.

I really don’t see any racial or gender divide. A 7-point lead for McCain among white voters? A 3-point lead among men? The biggest differences seem to be with women and black voters. HELLO! The first female to run for pres just dropped out and the first black nominee is running. It’s called enthusiasm for making history. Of course women and blacks are excited about this race! Give them a break! They (and, yes, even white men) have a reason to be excited! And no, pride in being a part of history is not anti-white-man as some idiots would like you to believe (see Bill). African Americans make up 12% of the US population - I don’t think we have to worry about the white man becoming enslaved anytime soon. Ironically, it was Obama who was correct when he said that the frustrations coming from whites regarding aff action, etc… stems from not feeling the benefit of being white. The “benefits” of being white might not be so prevalent as they were in 1955 Birmingham, but to suggest that the tables have turned is laughable. One has to only look at the statistics - look at Hurricane Katrina to see how the “reverse racism” of affirmative action and others have somehow given blacks an advantage over white people.By joe

This is for Uncle Carl Ethel S and Bill Before you guys make a posting on who should be President of United States please do you research first. Everyone is intitle of their opinion however please get the facts straight! Sen. Barack Obama wants to improve this country from the MESS President Bush put us in first inforemost, he has not played the racist card nor will he ever, because the white people have that covered since they have taken away the Country from the Indians remember, also not to mention making the blacks their slaves for so many years, yes I can on an on about that, however you get the picture of how our four fathers set out to only protect the white men in america. Please do not forget Ethel S you were not able to vote either until the Liberation of Women occurred and for justice sake I hope and pray that all White people wake up and smell the black coffee for once WE ALL CREATED EQUAL UNDER GOD, that’s what you guys are always saying etc… in the work force and MEDIA however behind close door you VOTE for people like BUSH etc, and for the record you must be insane to VOTE for MCcain because he will make our government any worst than bush, going back to Ethel comment regarding the Immigration Policy that your Sen McCain voted against his own Policy do your research sweetie before making your point across. Bill you need Jesus very bad, and I will pray for all white Americans because, soon you guys will have to get over your selfness ways and try to understand there other people in this Country who is very Quailify to become President instead of White Men, you have all race of people and YES we are all Equal matter of fact, God did not discriminate when he created us, therefore NOR should we…It’s our turn to have the first Black President in United States of America and for our childrens to have hopes and dreams of becoming whoever they want to be instead of someone telling them they cannot because of people like you guys who always tried to stop our blessing. I hope black voters read the poll results closely, and see that 42% of white voters indicated that they’d support Hussein Obama while only 1% of blacks indicated a willingness to support McCain. I do not want to hear about white racsim again. The double standard has to stop.By Ethel S.

It is a hard election for 2008. Have you checked out Cynthia McKinney just nominated and endorsed by the Green Party? Her speech was outstanding! Sen. Obama is too immature to be President. He has many excuses when things go wrong and had to throw his grandmother, his crazy uncle, ministers, his church, his business associate Rezko, and neighbor Bill Ayers under that famous bus. Sen. Obama loves to deliver lofty speeches with big audiences. He has had at least three biographies out there on him, i.e. raised by a single mother, raised by grandparents going to the best schools in Hawaii, and living somewhere else with his father. Who is the real Sen. Obama? I think we know that Sen. McCain has a long public service record including the military and the Senate. He was responsible for the Immigration Bill co-sponsored by Sen. Kennedy and the National Campaign Finance Reform co-sponsored by Sen. Feingold. Sen. Obama is chair of the Senate Europe/NATO committee responsible for Afghanistan and failed to hold one hearing. These are our choices.By Bill

I’m a solid Democrat who has never or will never vote for a Republican. That said, I can’t vote for Obama because he’s a racist. I’m appalled that racism from the black community is so prevelant. I’m also appalled how Obama played the race card when there was none to play…for political gain. Nothing underscores the issue more than Obama’s rock star assendence that Affirmative Action and the Civil Rights Act are things of the past and no longer needed. Never again will I work for civil rights justice, the manner in which the black community turned on the Clinton’s is a national disgrace. Give me white neighborhoods, white employer’s and white churches. We’ve been had.By Big Ed

It’s just like the good old days when Jimmy Carter won as a democrat after the national disgrace that was Richard Nixon. Now we’ll get four years of incompetence followed by a another eight years of republicans.By Continued

Ultimately, we get to choose between one candidate’s unsustainable economic policies and another candidate’s unsustainable economic policies…between killing kids in the womb versus outside of the womb… between not supporting the Constitution and not supporting the Constitution…this is the “choice” we have to make? No thanks. The Founding Fathers warned against political parties, and now we all get to see why.By Daytonian

Mike and others equally disenfranchised and distraught, there should be at least a few third party candidates on the ballot. Green, Libertarian, possibly Constitution. Scare the Big Two into listening or vote them into further irrelevance. I know I can’t in all good conscience support either of the “options” being offered here.By Maria

I am glad that Obama is leading the Polls, it’s about time we have a black man who is very intelligent and love a black woman and their for his family. To give our Black community hope and to educate the world of who we really can be in this world…The white man have always put us down and tried to separate our family and now it’s our turn to make a difference in America! Change is good and the the right change for everyone whites blacks, etc…Let go and watch God take control!By Jim 5

These results are not surprising. This is going to be a very polarizing presidential election. Obama is in the interesting position of running for president while supporting affirmative action. Not surprisingly, white males are supporting McCain.By Julie
